Both played a role.

But one plays the most important position in the sport, while the other is a punt returner. To say Smith played well enough is laughable. Basically, you're saying with that defense, just this side of a corpse would have been good enough.

46% passing and 3/16 on 3rd down doesn't help your team win - it's hanging on for dear life.

He's saying in literal terms, if a team wins, by that measure whatever happened was good enough to win.

When more likely it's that the team won in spite of that.

Without Kyle Williams' 2 back to back muffed punts, which almost never happens in the NFL. The 49ers win that game in regulation. Neither offenses were moving the ball that day due to the weather conditions. Kyle Williams handed the Giants 10 points in that game.

He's a great all around player who is ascending. And he's young.

He absolutely is the talent I'm making him out to be. Just because he's been on the team with Tamba, doesn't hurt him in contract demands.

Without Smith's poor 3rd down percentage, those never happen.

Obviously, Smith isn't solely to blame for the poor 3rd downs, but point stands.

Without William's 2 muffled punts that led to 10 pts for the Giants, including the game clinching FG, the 3rd down conversion rate becomes irrelevant.

I know what he's saying, and it's ****ing idiotic.

It's like propping up a pitcher who goes 6 innings, gives up 14 hits and 9 runs, but wins the game because his offense scored more that night.

That's not "good enough" - that's winning in spite of a piss-poor performance.

Eli Manning made a big time clutch play on a third down that led to the TD after the first Williams muff.

To suggest sucking ass on third down wasn't a contributing factor is pushing an agenda.

One, I don't give a **** about one.

Two, that is absolute horseshit! I have seen a plethora of excuses passed along here over the other QBs... and have always marveled at that and voiced that it's being done for other team's QBs, but never their team's own.

**** you, hater douche.

Some of you need to review how things in a football game happen chronologically.

Even one extra conversion - much less a few - takes time off the clock. Williams' may not/should not have even been in that position.

The game may not have ever made it to OT.

Game wouldn't have made it to OT without the first muff. The Giants couldn't move the ball past midfield all night against the Niners D.

And the Giants had opportunities to overcome that first muff.

All they had to do was convert a third down or 2.

Those never happen? What? You realize that it was the Giants punting right? Smith had nothing to do with those muffed punts.

Smith's top three Wrs: A young and very average Michael Crabtree (who was locked down by Corey Webster), Kyle Williams, and Brett Swain. The only receiving threat that the 49ers had was Vernon Davis and Smith hit him for 2 big TDs before the Giants realized that the 49ers literally had no one else who could hurt them.

Eli's top 3 WRs: Hakeem Nicks (before injuries slowed him down completely, Victor Cruz, and Mario Manningham.

The weather conditions were almost as bad as the weapons that Smith had to work with as well.

Smith was playing against the same defense that held Aaron Rodgers and the Packers to only 20 points just the week before. Want to see Rodgers' stat line?

26/46, 264 yards, 5.7 average, 2 TDs, 1 INT. That's without the winter winds of Candlestick and the wet conditions.

What did Rodgers have to work with against that Giants' defense?

Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, Jermichael Finley, and James Jones.

And you wonder why Smith didn't light it up. Piss poor weather conditions, piss poor receivers, while facing a defense that was absolutely dominant at that point in the year was what led to those low numbers. And yet the 49ers would have won if not for the muffed punts from Kyle Williams.

Yeah, place all the blame as Smith. .
