If the Chiefs go 8-8 or better 49ers get a 2nd round pick.
A third- or second-rounder from Kansas City, the remnant of the Alex Smith deal. Now it can be told: The second draft choice San Francisco will receive from the Smith deal will be K.C.'s second-rounder in 2014 if the Chiefs go 8-8 or better this season. It will be a third-rounder in 2014 if Kansas City is under .500 this season.
So: San Francisco will probably have first-, second- and four third-rounders next year. But if the Chiefs surprise, it'll more likely be a one, two twos and three threes. As we've seen, GM Trent Baalke is dangerous with extra picks in his hands. If Colin Kaepernick is very good, the Niners should be annual contenders for years with the picks laid out that way. It's apparently our barometer for success. Otherwise Reid and Dorsey would have made it 10-6 or some other winning record.

Eh, Axl's time is short at best. He'll probably be hired as Bray's QB coach sooner rather than later.

It's the worst record, but the team returns 6 probowl players. This isn't your ordinary talent depleted bottom feeder. They went all in on Alex so it's playoffs or failure.

It's only Patteeu's 3rd month of talking Chiefs football. Give him time to adjust to how football discussions should go.

Alex "short-timer" Smith. Just rolls right off the tongue, don't it?

It makes no sense. If a team makes that move, they're obviously in win now mode. If they don't win now, they failed.

Geno may get his chance to start, but it's how he plays that will determine whether he's Warren Moon or Vince Young (or Tyler Palko). Merely starting isn't the goal.

What? So what's the point of including it?

When a store owner prices an item at $3.50, do you wonder what the point of including the $0.50 is? He could have priced it at $4.00 or $3.00, but for whatever reason the price was $3.50.
In this case, they settled on a value for Alex Smith of between a 2nd + a 3rd and a 2nd + a 2nd. The point of including it is that they wanted the price to be higher than a 2nd and a 3rd and we wanted it to be lower than a 2nd and a 2nd. We settled for a sort of mid ground. Would you have felt better about it if the 2014 pick had been a straight up 2nd or a 2nd with a chance to go to a 1st if the Chiefs win the Super Bowl? If I'm making this too complicated for you just tell me to slow down. Since I've only been talking about football for 3 months, I'm not sure how simplified I need to make it for you guys who have been hard at it since the dawn of 2009.

How about they get NOTHING in 2014 unless we make the playoffs, then it goes to a second if we make the postseason...then goes to a first if we win a playoff game. If you are gonna make an OBVIOUS win RIGHT NOW move, at least set the bar to something more than a .500 record. |

The perception of the trigger being good or bad would have been changed quite a bit if the bar was set to 9-7.
Setting it at 8-8 is a ****ing joke. |

You say that only because you are mad they traded for Smith. You are setting unreasonable expectations so you can say "See, I told you so" if they don't make it. You are very transparent (and childish).
