Phrases that annoy you...
This will probably be a dud of a thread, but screw it.
What are some overused phrases that annoy you? Here's a couple that irk me for no rational reason: "Across the pond" - I hear a lot of Americans use this phrase when referring to people from England, or just England in general. "Yea, we're headed on a vacation across the pond." Everyone uses this phrase and I hate it. It may have been clever the first time someone said it....but not anymore. "In the drink" - fisherman use this one. If they're on the boat, and they knock something over and it goes in the water, they'll say it went in the drink. "Damn, my phone fell out of my hand and went in the drink. I'll have to buy a new one." "Wet our lines/kayaks" - I've heard people use "wet our lines" quite a bit and it never bothered me too much, until I worked on shift with a kayak enthusiast. Any time you asked him what he was doing next weekend, he always said "Oh, I'm gonna go get my kayak wet." Every freaking time. Just got tired of hearing the same phrase. There's a few more, if I think of them, I'll post them. |
