Changing of the guard in the state of Kansas

Wichita State is now the best team in this state, easily.

KU would inbound the ball from the other side under the basket. WSU put Smithson on the ball so there wouldn't be a free pass the length of the court.

The guy inbounding slapped the ball, and immediately ran toward the opposite side under the basket. Smithson followed him all the way. Owens had the other KU player slide to the baseline stand there. Smithson wasn't looking and Smithson RAN OVER the player on the baseline, who was stationary. Owens was hoping for a charge (and it was) but got no call. Great ending to great game.

That was a tremendous year for college hoops in the state of Kansas. KSU went out West and knocked off Ralph Miller's #2 seed Oregon Ducks on Ro Blackmon's late turnaround J from the baseline. (Which made the cover of Sports Illustrated.)
We lost in the round of 8 to UNC. UNC would go on to the championship game and lose to Indiana. (Led by Isiah Thomas)
It was Oregon State, I believe.

I do remember that play, first time I had ever seen it tried. I think it surprised the officials as well, because it was a foul. I think it might have been Donnie Von Moore, the ugliest guy ever to breath, that you are trying to think of.
Rolando Blackman was one of many great guards at K-State, Hartman teams were capable of beating anyone.

I heard that along time ago they were pretty good/national power. My family was strickly KU so I really dont remember much of KSU and their glory days..

I would like to see them get a coach that will bring them back to respectiblitiy and consistent NCAA appearances.. Would be awesome to have them at the top of the big XII agian..

And Please Thuggins if your lucky will leave before he humilates KSU and the state of Kansas....
