Okay, I want to address the Sippio being slow nonsense. In 2003 at the combine he ran a sloowww 4.69 in the 40 while trying out as a cornerback. Since that time he has run times of 4.4 and even reportedly a 4.37. However, I have never found any evidence for the 4.37.

Here is the quote and link to the interview taken in 2007. You will find the quote on page 2. Note the comment by the interviewer, "You are fast."

Edward: "You are fast. How fast is your 40?"

Bobby: "My 40 is 4.4."

At this point it doesn't matter if he runs a 6.69, we need people who can catch the football. Preferably players who play for the Chiefs.

I was initially defending the group and since laz would also defend that group and not be included in htismaqe's definition, I now have to wonder if I would be in or out of his definition...
Sorry, but the thing that separates you from Laz and Mecca is that you're a moron...

I suspect that is in large part due to the horrible 4.69 he ran at the combine in 2003, and the 4.5 when he tried out with the Dolphins as a free agent. At the time he was a cornerback, and had been an All-American at Western Kentucky. The poor showing in the 40 at the combine caused him to be passed over in the draft. He went into the AFL it was as a linebacker/WR, and in 2006 he was persuaded to switch strictly to offense. I think when he switched to WR he focused more on his running seeing the need for separation. I ran in high school and later long distance in the army, and can tell you everyone has good and bad days running. If you are in good shape and work on it your times can improve. Sippio said he runs a 4.4 NOW.

Until he runs another timed 40 we will never know. That said, the interviewer said he was fast, and I have seen other places that say he is fast. However, the proof will be in how he runs his pass routes and if he gets separation. If you look at the U-Tube video you will see some pretty good running.

I don't know why Gary keeps insisting Sippio is fast. He was slow coming out of college and the coaches and Carl all noted he was slow on Hard Knocks. Accept the fact and move on. You don't have to be a burner to be successful. If he runs crisp, clean routes and has good hands it will be enough to make an improvement on this team.

Here is an article from 2003:

BOBBY SIPPIO (CB, Western Kentucky): Another standout Hilltopper, Sippio is WKU's career record holder with 19 interceptions and 357 interception return yards. A real playmaker, the 6-3, 215-pounder scored eight career touchdowns on defense and special teams (five interceptions, two punts and a fumble)... He racked up 38 tackles and five interceptions while also registering 16 yards per punt return in 2001...In 2000, he intercepted a school season record 10 passes and set school marks for return yards in a game (82), season (236) and career (321) to become a consensus All-American, the first Hilltopper ever to be named by five different organizations following one season . Sippio finished his career with 179 total stops and 41 career pass breakups. He possesses great size and that coupled with his all-around athleticism should land him on an NFL roster this season.

The problem is conflicting 40 times for Sippio, and add to that the Chiefs did not time him. I noted he may or may not be fast, and we will never know until he runs another 40. We will also get an idea if we see him burn defenders, which he did in the AFL. I agree running good crisp routes and good hands should make him successful.

I agree with you both, but I had a wasted roster spot anyway, so I picked him up for the bench, just incase. Hey I'll know in a couple weeks if I should even keep him, start him on a bye for T. Holt/T. Owens/ or P. Burress.....

I scored 162 points with my starters, I'm not hurting in any area. But if he does good, it could pan out for a bye week, or trade bait. He may never even get a start on my team, even if he starts hualing in 5-8 catches a game, numbers close to three digits and a TD or two.
