Alex Smith Was Clutch

Like him or not, he turned the game around when Washington was kicking our ass early and he was key to the game-winning drive late.

If not I dont see the point in spending 15+ million on him when we can get weapons for mahomes...

Couldn't agree more. But the Pats have been moving Bradys money around for years. I mean they can drop Alex's cap hit and move the money to a bonus if they want. But I agree. Unless this team is at the very least in the AFCCG Alex is on another team next year.

{drinks bleach}

No points were scored but it allowed us to finally back up the Redskins a little. And unsurprisingly, they immediately hit a big play and then snagged another 1st down, IIRC. The ended up stalling at around our 40 and were forced to punt. That was the drive we answered with a TD.

If Smith doesn't stand in there, take the hit and get that ball downfield to Kelce, we end up punting from our own 15ish and that quick strike and additional 1st put them right back in the red zone. A healed defense could've easily folded and suddenly we're down 17-0 and the game's almost certainly over.

That play may have been more important than the play to Wilson. It gave them a second to breath and gave the defense enough breathing room to get the 'Skins off the field. Then we answered in the next drive and it was off to the races.

That play may end up forgotten because of the Wilson play but it was every bit as difficult and every bit as critical.

You know what's funny about that play? I mentioned when I first came here that Alex's best throws in SF were seam throws to Vernon Davis. He's really good at that pass.

also and I could be way off here but I'm trying to put myself in alex's position

He doesnt know when he will get hurt or how long he has left...

If he keeps playing lights out this year, the end of this year may be his last chance to get realy huge money and sign another 60-75 million dollar 4 year type deal with someone.

I know there are a lot of homers and true fans who think that "alex is already rich" but this is world changing amounts of money here. And I mean lets face it..if someone is willing to pay that much for him then he is worth it...I just do not see the chiefs being willign or able to do that...

and guess what I mean , if he keeps balling the **** out and some team out there is willign to shell out that kind of bread...I say more power too him..

You (he) cannot possibly predict what will happen , health wise or whatever to him...so him just playing out another year and rolling the dice with his career might not be the smartest move for him...

I mean unless the chiefs are willing to sit mahomes for 3-4 more years it seems like Smith has game left in him and no desire to stop playing.

You made the idiotic claim that Alex has been winging it with no name players, to which I showed you is completely incorrect as 70% of his passing yards have gone to Hill, Kelce and Hunt.

Now you want to make this conversation about 2 passes in one drive of one game.

Keep changing the argument! You can never be wrong that way!

out of curiosity, lets just imagine a situation (not the chiefs) where you have a QB in his final few years , that the head coach isn't 100% certain they are going to extend the contract....that might be able to be traded...that they may want to negotiate with in one of several ways: possibly get them to play for less, or negotiate a new contract ...etc etc etc

in other words there are various possibilities of keeping or not keeping this "imaginary" QB , and meanwhile the team also has a young , hotshot but unproven QB on the bench that will be the future of the team at some unknown time.

Now, what exactly would you say to the press in that situation so as to keep the trade value, not piss off the player, keep open the possibility of an extension, etc etc etc?

I mean what could you say that was any different from this? Just asking for a friend...

haha

also, his whole argument is false because the thing that people discuss about Brady when referring to how many WR's he throws to is TD's.

Brady has thrown so many TD's so so many different WR's its crazy..

Whereas we have gone a whole season without throwing any td to any receiver..

Theres just no comparison here to be made, it is grasping at straws and straw men...

I've said this before but Patrick Mahomes II can beat out Alex Smith for starting job next TC & preseason. It's always harder to beat the incumbent but if they had equal time and bot got to play with the starters I think Patrick will showcase why they drafted him and take over.

****ing bullshit to continue another season with Alex Smith anything short of winning the Super Bowl.

Pat has the physical tools but he needs to make pre snap adjustments, identify blitzes, read coverages. It’s more than just chucking it deep
