Alex Smith didn't have more touchdowns than interceptions in a season until I believe his 5th season in the NFL, and he's a god to some around here.

It's not exactly going to be hard to do better than Smith did as a young player.

Even if Mahomes busts you go right back to the drawing board and draft another one until you get it right. Retread losers weren't the answer when we had Bono, Grbac, Huard, Cassel, etc. and they are not the answer now.

First of all, let's worry about winning the division. If we don't beat Miami this weekend, this whole discussion is moot. Secondly, you don't throw Bray out there for trade bait. He's the new #2 if Smith goes during the off season. Unless you have a competent vet backup (and have cash to get him), Bray is #2 next year. I see no harm in giving the kid some experience in the 2nd half. If we do have the division wrapped up, treat it like pre-season game 3.

The Chiefs started Alex Smith because they didn't think Mahomes was ready. The staff felt that starting Alex was better for Mahomes development, because he still needs work on mechanics and complete knowledge of the playbook.

If KC only cared about nice seasons they never would have spent that draft capital on a future QBOTF

I hope that's the case, because I'm a real fan, and not some of the losers in this thread who are hoping for an early playoff exit with AS.

But I'm also realistic, and realize that many/most QBs are not superstars. We have a good chance of getting past wild card weekend, and would love to see Antonio Brown still not 100% in a Steelers rematch.
