I guess Holliday is done for the year. Do they even bring him back next year?

He had surgery so he could be back this year. And if he wants to come back, you take him back IMO.

If the Cardinals were an AL team were you could get Holliday DH time, it would be a no brainer. But I would pay the million dollar buyout and spend that 16 million else where.

Go. Get. Yasiel. Puig.

In 31 AAA PAs he has 3 HRs, 11 RBI, a 4-1 BB/K ratio and a .481/.548/.926 triple slash. No, his OPS is not .926, that's his slug. His OPS is 1.474.

He'd be the most talented player we have and he's actually younger than Aledmys Diaz. You want a new core to compete with Chicago, you're going to have to take some risks. Getting Puig in here with Molina, Wainwright and Carpenter to keep him in line and you could potentially transition into a new era of Cardinal baseball with Puig, Diaz, Piscotty, Martinez, Reyes and Weaver leading the charge.

That's a hell of a foundation to build around.

It's a no-brainer unless the price is steep, and I bet it won't be. Put him in a new situation with vets that can keep him in line and who knows. It's better than what we have and if he comes cheap, it's a risk definitely worth taking. Look what we give up for brokedicks from Cleveland.

What OF FAs would be available?

Because, if they don't pick up Holliday's option and Moss leaves via FA, the OF would have these players under contract currently-Grichuk, Piscotty, Pham, and I guess Wong(if you want to count him as an OFer).

I don't think any in the group is consistent enough to be a starter aside from Piscotty. Pham's injury prone, Grichuk doesn't doesn't walk nearly enough and strikeouts, and Wong is Wong(though I do think he'll rebound a bit next season).

That seems like a dreadful OF over the course of a 162 game season.

Grichuk, DeJong, Flaherty, Woodford, Marco, Gomber

Choose any two and I'm down. If you need three, let me know which three and we'll talk.

The Dodgers would almost certainly prefer to avoid dealing him to the Cardinals so we'll have to overpay respective to the market if we really want him.

I'd do it anyway.

DJ's fantasy for Puig makes sense, or for the guy that replaced Puig - Josh Reddick.

Piscotty in left, Grichuk/Pham platoon in center, Reddick in right.

Piscotty needs to replace Holliday in left and in the 3 hole.

I like Reddick though, I think Puig would be nice.

I see what you're doing here.

It will not work, sir.

I'm not taking my eyes off the prize. You may keep your soon to be 30 year old, defensively limited corner OFer who can't get on base and has never managed an OPS over .784 (career OPS of .754).

Reddick is a seriously poor man's Puig and as a FA, he'll actually cost more over the coming years than Puig would. Not even a little bit interested.
