Asked if Berry would be ready to go on Sunday in Los Angeles, coach Andy Reid was non-committal.

“We’ll see,” he said Monday. “It’s day-to-day. We’ll see how it goes.”

They both had mega contracts.

Pats and Falcons year before.

Berry definitely would play if he could, but I think today we will find out that he can’t.

The last thing they need to do is risk blowing another Achilles. If the rest is necessary to prevent that, I’m ok with it. We’ve beaten Rivers and co. without him several times before, they can do it again.

Good grief. Berry has received massive contracts from us. His rookie deal and now. Just tired of the big contracts being a waste. All we have heard it's a precaution over and over again. The season is here and still we get nothing but his heel is sore. What is actually the problem? It's not a sore heel.

So is this the norm we should expect for the entirety of Berry's contract? So far we've been through 2 offseasons and into the second year of the contract and the current norm is not participating in the preseason and training camp and not being able to perform in the regular season. Does anyone really think he'll be 2016 Berry even if he does return? This is why the new push by NFL players for fully guaranteed contracts is such a bad idea.

You’re right. Let’s trade Chris Jones, Kendall Fuller and Tyreek Hill for picks next spring like the Raiders did for Mack.

Don’t want to pay them any money bc they “might” get hurt.

While be was being hyperbolic, for the most part, big deals in the NFL don't work out that well.

The problem isn’t that we paid Berry, it’s the length of the deal. If I’m a GM, I’m structuring any FA deal like the Sammy Watkins deal, unless it’s a QB.

3 year structure
Heavy guarantee up front; low cap hit 1st yr (Watkins 2018 cap hit is $7.8 million).
Big money 2nd year
Option for 3rd year. We can cut Watkins and get $14 million back with only 1 year of dead money issues.

I think this will be the new norm in FA. Great insurance for teams and the player can cash in twice if they are good instead of just one time. If the player busts, you are basically paying them a big portion of your cap for 1 season.
