Report: Chiefs give Branden Albert permission to meet with Dolphins

With the Chiefs considering a trade that would send left tackle Branden Albert to Miami in exchange for one of the Dolphins’ second-round draft picks, Kansas City has taken a big step toward getting a deal done by giving Albert permission to meet with the Dolphins.

Albert signed his one-year, $9.8 million tender offer as the Chiefs’ franchise player, which means he’s under contract and only permitted to talk to other teams if the Chiefs grant him that permission. And according to John Clayton of ESPN, that’s exactly what has happened: The Chiefs have given the Dolphins permission to talk to Albert, who lives in Miami, and he is expected to visit the Dolphins’ facility and take a physical.

The Dolphins are the only team that has received permission from the Chiefs to talk to Albert. Any team that would trade for Albert would surely want him to agree to a long-term contract first, so this week’s visit will presumably include negotiations with Albert’s agent in addition to a physical.

A high second-round pick is reportedly the price tag the Chiefs have put on Albert. The Dolphins have two second-round picks, their own (No. 42 overall) and the Colts’ (No. 54 overall).

Miami wants to upgrade at left tackle after losing Jake Long to the Rams. The top three left tackles in this year’s draft (Luke Joeckel, Eric Fisher and Lane Johnson) are all likely to be off the board before the Dolphins’ first-round pick, No. 12 overall, comes up. So if the Dolphins are going to make that upgrade, trading for Albert is probably a better bet than relying on a rookie.

I really like him in the third but with the Chiefs needing a starting ILB, I'd pass in the second, mainly due to Bray's immaturity issues (and a possible anxiety disorder).

Then I do another line of cocaine, take a long drag on an unfiltered Marlboro, crack my knuckles and prepare to do it all over again.

If they reach their ceilings?

Matt Barkey has the upside of Drew Brees/Matt Ryan IMO and I'd love to draft him.

Geno Smith has McNabb upside and his teams got real close 5 times.

I don't want to make a comparison for EJ Manuel, but the kid is extremely smart (played his last year after he had already graduated and was taking master level courses) and has sick athleticism to go with above average accuracy. He could be as good as Kaepernick if he is able to groom under Alex with Reid as his coach.

Tyler Wilson is the guy I like the least on that list, but under Reid I think he could be a Phillip Rivers type guy. Not good enough to win it all with.

Depends how the board falls. If Arthur Brown is there, yeah take him. But if they feel one of those guys has franchise QB potential, I hate to play that game and potentially miss out.

I'm also not sure with all the ILB's they've signed they want to spend that high of a pick on one. I like that we've signed the FA's we have, as I think it will relaly open up the draft and not pigeonhole us.

If Matt Barkley had an NFL arm, he'd go first overall.

I never liked McNabb. I thought he was overrated due to the city in which he played. He sucked after he left.

It would be torture to me if the Chiefs took a McNabb clone.

I've talked to plenty of Florida State people that think he just doesn't have the mental capacity to make it in the NFL. Now, they could ALL be wrong but there's certainly hasn't been any "buzz" around him.

I think Tyler Wilson is the worst of the "hyped" prospects in 2013. I prefer Smith, Nassib, Barkley, Bray, Dysert and even Manual before Wilson.

I may be proven wrong, but that's how I see it. Not a fan.

I just don't see it with Nassib. Footwork needs a big overhaul along with pocket movement.

From what I've been told, Nassib is a big time riser. People like his leadership skills, his arm and pocket presence.

That's all I know.

He does a weird jump thing in the pocket that I didn't notice til someone mentioned it on twitter. Other than that, i really haven't watched much of him. I don't think he's really a fit in the "Reid" offense.

People like to talk about how Wilson is so tough and can take shots like it's a good thing. To me, it signals that he didn't really know dick about moving progressions around.
