How do you feel about Popeyes chicken?

Love that spicy chicken with a side of red beans and rice!

Yeah, I've said time and again that the district manager, manager and employees greatly influence the quality of chain restaurant, probably more than people realize.

But to be fair, I had Popeye's at a North Hollywood location and Popeye's at a Hollywood location, which were separated by 9 miles, which is a lot in Los Angeles and the only reason I even went a second time was due to this thread.

The food just wasn't good or appealing

I don't mean to go off topic but yes, it's an issue. Spending $40+ dollars for fast food just doesn't make sense. I can (and do) purchase 4 pounds of tail-on shrimp at Costco and make Cajun style seared shrimp or Cajun style boiled shrimp, along with a 24 ounce bag of french fries of choice for less than $40 dollars.

It'll make several meals for my family and it tastes 100x better.

Please give me your secret to perfect french fries in the air fryer, preferably with brand of frozen fries, time, and temp.

Believe it or not, I prefer the Kroger branded fries to Arby's or Ore-Ida. The latter brands cook tend to be "crunchier" and cook more quickly, making them drier and less flavorful.

The Seasoned Curly Fries cook up a bit more quickly than the Seasoned and Steak Fries. Initially, I was cooking all of the fries at 400 degrees but found that 350 is better for smaller batches, so that the outside remains crispy but the inside is softer and more flavorful.

So, after heating the Air Fryer to the desired temp, I grab a handful or two of fries, do a quick burst of spray can Canola oil, cook for 7-8 minutes, stop and shake the fries around, then monitor for the next 4-6 minutes. It's kind of weird: Sometimes the fries will cook quicker than other times. I think the culprit is the actual $99 dollar Black & Decker unit itself and I've wondered if a higher priced model, like the Phillips, might be more consistent.

Anyway, hope that helps and good luck!

I have the Phillips, but have only tried fries and tater tots a few times. The Arby's curly fries were my first go and you could have used them as charcoal. They were more like nearly burned chips by the time I was done with them. The Ore Ida came out just OK, and the tater tots were pretty good. My best attempt has actually been real fries where I hand-cut the potatoes.

I was born in Scotland and lived there for 11 years. Lived in the two largest cities in Texas for 20 years. Been to New York, DC, Oregon, Colorado, Florida, Mississippi, Wisconsin, Utah and a half dozen other states I can't even remember right now. And an island you've never even heard of.

I eat fast food 10 times a year. If that.

I agree but it is fast food and unless you have never had the real deal I can see how it could be good to someone.

There are two items I never get at a ff chicken place cob corn its overcooked to death and Mashers and gravy. I dont like poorly doctored up potato flakes.

I do like fried okra at a chicken joint though.

This thread got me hungry, went and grabbed some Popeyes tonight. I got a 2 piece and a box of their Cajun Shrimp. It was great as always. I even got a large order of the Red Beans and Rice for later.

I really like Popeye's red beans and rice. No idea how authentic they are or if they taste remotely like the real thing, but they are yummy. Also like their biscuits with honey. The chicken is just ok, kind of hit or miss.

I was, kind of. I spent a month in Springfield, Monett, Republic almost every year for the first 11 years of my life (summer vacation). From the ages of 12-31 that probably extended to two months on average, with multiple vacations to Kansas City to see the Chiefs.

My parents were born and raised in Missouri and I have family in Springfield. And I love all of you crazy ****ers.

So in a way, I am from the Midwest.

I'm also currently eating Wendy's so I can just **** right off with my self righteous ways.

Popeyes is never a "go-to" for me. It is better than KFC by a thousand miles. I go to Popeyes maybe twice a year. Chik-fil-A is still current king within my 5 mile radius.
