That's because the offense did their job, the defense didn't.

The offense had a reason to suck in the first half of the season: Completely new system, new QB getting used to his teammates, and a limited playbook because Reid didn't trust them to know and run it all effectively yet. The big problem is that, while the offense got better and better as the season progressed, our defense took a freaken nose dive off the face of the earth and that carried on into the playoff game. The defense, by far, is our most highly paid unit and they were our weakest unit by season's end.

Like Bowe keeping his foot inbounds on a perfect sideline pass at the end of the game that would have put us well within fieldgoal range at the very least? I still don't understand how a WR getting paid as much as he is, injured foot or not, could fail to get both feet inbounds in that situation. It's a play that I've seen scrubs and college WRs make on a routine basis.

can you actually look in the mirror and say with a straight face "the offense did its job in the second half of the colts playoff game" ?

both units share the blame equally for the SECOND half collapse.

you cant say that the offense played lights out, (defense played pretty ****ing well first half too buddy) in the first half and call that a great GAME...

yeah that's one play that could have gone differently...

so you actually agree with me? the offense could have still won that game no matter how bad the defense played.

The offense had the game won if our defense were even the equivalent of a speed bump in the road. Unfortunately, they weren't. Offense did their job in the second half as well, they added points and won TOP again, the defense just crapped all over itself so badly that it didn't matter if the offense would have scored 50 points, our defense would have found a way to allow the Colts to score 51 points.

The offense did NOT do its job in the second half. It shares the blame for losing the game.

Yes, it scored 10 points off of short fields created by the defense. It had one scoring drive for a FG.

Other than that, the offense did not do enough in the second half. Not enough 1st downs, not enough points, and a turnover that led to a quick strike for the Colts off of a short field of its own.

That's the whole point. The defense was dogshit in the second half, but the offense was not perfect by any means.

Uh, no one said it was perfect. 44 points is enough to win like 99.9% of the time.

This is the way I see it.

Offense and Defense went into "protect and prevent" mode in the second half. If the score is tied or the game is close and your offense performs the way the Chiefs did, then it's a failure. But in my opinion you judge the performance based on the situation of the game.

"PROTECT OFFENSE": "We have a huge lead, don't cough up the ball - no matter what. Don't put the D in a bad position. Don't gift wrap quick scores for the opposing Offense." Normal strategy is pounding the rock in this situation to grind the clock and be perfectly happy with punts pinning defenses deep in their own territory. But we had the 2nd stringer in who has history of fumbling. Not turning the ball over is more important than grinding the clock especially when the coach thinks that short passes with a smart QB will accomplish the same thing.

Protect Offense Stats:

- 7 offensive possessions in second half- allowed 1 turnover that was converted to points.
- Held the ball 5 minutes longer than opposing offense, but overall poor clock management.

Offense grade in regard to "PROTECT OFFENSE": C+

"PREVENT DEFENSE": "Huge lead, don't give up big plays. Keep everything in front of you. Bend but don't break and force them to use too much time getting down the field."

Prevent Defense Stats:

- 80 yard scoring drive - 5 plays - 1:52
- 80 yard scoring drive - 6 plays - 1:31
- 90 yard scoring drive - 12 plays - 4:02
- 80 yard scoring drive - 4 plays - 1:15

Defense grade in regard to "PREVENT DEFENSE": F

Anyway... it's just the way I see it. Probably most of the FAULT lies on the shoulders of Reid who went to "Protect and Prevent" too early. As the saying goes... "Prevent Defense prevents you from winning". Should have kept the foot on the gas longer than we did. But it's all hindsight. I can't wait to get the season started so this game can just fade into the archives.

I like how you bring up the first 3 mins of the 2nd half when the offense scored points on turnovers deep in Indy territory, but conveniently leave those first 3 mins out of your analysis of the defense.

Good god... we are in fight mode now? Why does everything always boil down to this? No, but I didn't make up that saying. If fact I said Reid went to Protect and Prevent too early, not just prevent. Should have kept the gas pedal down on both sides of the ball. I just think the offense did a better job of "Protect" (still a C+ which is nothing to brag about) than the defense did of "Prevent". That's it. If they both do "C" quality work, Chiefs win.

That's all. I certainly respect your opinion here. Just stating mine. We don't need to be enemies.

Seriously.

I don't see how its even possible to give one a better second half grade than the other. They both get a ****ing F. If you are going to count the first 3 mins as a positive for one side, guess what... it's a positive for the other side. But they were both terrible for the final 27 mins. You might have an argument for the offense getting a D- because they managed 1 drive for a FG, but then I'd go back to the first FG and negate the shit out of that because the first FG goes to the defense. So **** that... they both get an F.
