USA Today predicts Chiefs at 4-12 for 2014

I could see it happening but really 6-8 wins seems pretty doable.

AFC West

Broncos 12-4 (2): Could be better than 2013 team even if wins and offensive output dip. But schedule is murderous.

Chargers 8-8: Last year's schedule allowed late-season charge. This year's could easily produce late-season slide.

Chiefs 4-12: Tight salary cap meant crippling free agent defections, and they didn't sufficiently reload in draft.

Raiders 3-13: Best thing influx of over-the-hill vets can do is change culture. Carr, Mack promise brighter days ahead.

Trade wasn't bad at all. Your heros in Seattle gave that for Whitehurst.

If Tom Brady is right (he is) that the only stat that matters is wins... then Alex Smith since 2011 is just under names like Brady, Manning, Rodgers and maybe one other.

His winning percentage the last three years is definitely top 10 and when you throw in his playoff performance... I cant see how he isn't top 10.

I would rate him as the top game-manger in the league. Safe as milk, he is.

I have no heroes in the Pac NW.

Dorsey overpaid San Francisco for his services because Baalke and Harbaugh knew that Reid had more than a passing interest in Smith.

Was he worth a 2013 second rounder? Yes, if there was a likely threat of San Francisco dealing him elsewhere which I don't believe was ever credible.

Was he worth a 2014 third rounder that escalated to a second if the Chiefs went better than 7-9? Nope. A third rounder tops, but it should've been much less than that.

Losing the offensive linemen hurts, but it's possible we don't get much dropoff if the replacements can play at expected levels.
I hope so

imo Abdullah doesn't count because he was already here.

promoting depth is still a loss of talent

If our talent level is the same it's wrong, we should have gotten significantly better. We should have made a push. Why in the hell do you trade for Alex Smith and sign Sean Smith last year and then take a ****ing nap this year.

last year = winning now
this year = build for the future

no ****ing sense

Asamoah and Albert were phenom run blockers. Charles numbers should suffer a lot this year. Pass protection shouldn't change much.

It makes a LOT of sense to me. Ownership wanted the embarrasment stopped post-haste, last year accomplished that. Now we move on, dealing with our internal players and building the team that Dorsey and Reid want to build.

I fail to see how anyone believes or believed that 2014 was going to be a win-now year as well.

That's kind of stretching it, seeing as how our run yards don't generate much from the inside.

Mccluster was also a good run blocker down field. DAT wont be.. I bet the run game is fairly worse this season.

Based on healthy rosters and ignoring the details of schedules (bye week, Thursday games, travel and the like)...

If you look at who the Chiefs play

Titans (Likely lower end team)
Broncos (Likely elite)
Patriots (likely elite)
49ers (likely elite)
Chargers (likely playoff contender)
Rams (likely playoff contender, at least talent-wise)
Jets (likely playoff contender)
Bills (likely lower end team)
Seahawks (likely elite)
Raiders (likely lower end team)
Broncos (Likely elite)
Cardinals (likely playoff contender, at least talent-wise)
Raiders (likely lower end team)
Steelers (likely playoff contender)
Chargers (likely playoff contender)

That's not a very promising schedule for the Chiefs, and there's not a single expected cupcake on the list (at least outside the division). Playing a lot of physical defenses and teams (Titans/Patriots/49ers/Rams/Jets/Seahawks/Cardinals/Steelers) doesn't help the cause either.

Only if you think they are a big step above Detroit and Chicago.

Indianapolis' schedule is a joke. The worst part of their schedule before the bye is going to Denver and then hosting Philadelphia. The next 2013 playoff team they face will be hosting Cincinnati after the long week following a Thursday Night game. Then they go to Pittsburgh and host the Giants before their off week. After the bye they play one team who had a winning record in 2013 (New England) though they do end the season with back to back road games... against Dallas and Tennessee (8-8 and 7-9 respectively.)
