PFT: Unhappy with Chiefs, Houston hopes to attract an offer sheet

Quote:
Mike Florio, ProFootballTalk

It’s highly unusual for franchise players to be signed to offer sheets, because teams regard any unused first-round picks as potential Hall of Fame players. Chiefs linebacker Justin Houston could become the exception, for various reasons.

First, he enters the process after completing a 22-sack season. No player with that kind of performance has been available on the heels of it, with or without compensation.

Second, he’s motivated to move on. Per multiple sources, Houston is very upset with the Chiefs. It’s believed that he’ll actively solicit an offer sheet in the hopes the Chiefs won’t match it.

Who is their starter? That Foles kid that Kelly doesn't seem to care for?

They're both overpaid.

And sorry if I don't treat the moves of a franchise that's been in existence for 80 years and doesn't have a single Super Bowl win to show for it as the gospel..

Chip knows Mariota will need to have time to acclimate his game to this level. He will probably trade Foles and redshirt MM.

Alot of it too is what the structure of the deal they want is. If they can do it like clay Matthews or watts, it's palatable.

Like dj said, if they want Mario williams type, that's a killer for the chiefs.

The point is that the most vocal people here bitch about things they cannot control, nor understand.

You guys are constantly saying "This guy isn't worth this or this guy isn't worth that", yet the NFL constantly disagrees.

At this point if a team was hot for Houston we'd know about it.

Drug test him before any offer is complete and include some character escape hatch clauses in the contract.

Personally I wish the nfl should go to lower base salaries with large performance and win bonuses. Keep players motivated.

Perhaps, but maybe other teams thought there was no way Houston would be available like 98% of this board.

Never going to be like that, nor should it be.

These guys put their bodies on the line more than any other major sport, and get the least amount of guaranteed money.

They should be getting as much in guarantees as they can.

Until I hear of some interest from another team and a visit I consider Houston and his agent full of shit. It's going to suck for Houston if all this don't want to be in KC talk doesn't work and no teams come calling. Two 1st round picks will scare all the teams away. Could be a screw up on their part.

We can tag him for 29m for 2 years.

51 for 3 years.

That's better than Suh for 60 in 3 years.

If he wants to sit out...he can sit and make shit for 18 games the next 3 years and still be hurting for money 4 years from now.

Want to play games in the media? Fine. Leverage goes both ways.

Certain teams disagree, and those teams tend to be the perennial losers of the NFL.
