Harrison of NFL.com ranks his top 10 QB's of '15 and Alex....

You can read the full list and see video here

Here's a small excerpt

Competition was fierce at the 10-spot, coming down to Cam Newton, Matt Ryan, Eli Manning, Joe Flacco and Matthew Stafford. If we were talking overall careers, Manning would be the choice. Flacco presents an interesting argument, because he tends to light it up in nationally televised games. At the same time, there's no question he's been inconsistent since winning Super Bowl XLVII. Stafford's inaccuracy in key spots has driven Lions fans crazy. Newton's calling card has never included on-the-mark throws, but his overall game can be a nightmare for defenses. Ryan, meanwhile, has been the most consistent, and was ultimately the toughest to leave off.

So why Smith?

To me, he's DeBerg or Bledsoe.

He's DeBledsoe.

The guy has his faults and I will join you in listing them, but atleast pick the right ones... he's top 10 on 3rd down.

I don't care about his QB rating on third down. I care about his team's 3rd down conversion rate. It was bad in San Francisco, even in 11 and 12, and bad in 13.

They improved a lot last year, and I hope he continues to reverse the trend. But I see a lot of supporters says he consistently moves the chains, when really he just milks the clock and isn't great at keeping his team on the field on third down over the course of his career.

What I've noticed is that he really sucks on 1st down.

Followed by 2nd down.

And then 3rd.

He's pretty tight on punts though.

I'm about two sheets to the wind and have to ask... whats the difference between his third down % and the teams?

Is it really not one and the same?

Agreed, its happened over and over... but its atleast possible that he's being micromanaged by Reid.

This year is the real acid test, if he isn't allowed to make changes at the line in year 3 or doesnt otherwise take advantage of the improved team... its time to go, I'll chip in for the banner.

49ers rate in 2011 was team winning and Harbaugh seemed fine with 'a FG or punt is fine, defense won't give up any points'

70 runs on 3rd down only 19 for a First Down.

For example.

20 first down passes the entire season in the 4th quarter.

KC has been over 40 the past 2 seasons.

And again it goes back to false expectations of Smith.
How good should Smith of been on 3rd down pass conversions considering he is not a great QB and the Pass Catching and Pass Blocking crews around him have been average at best.

List of teams KC outscored per possession last season

San Diego Chargers
New York Giants
Houston Texans
Cincinnati Bengals
Carolina Panthers
Minnesota Vikings
Detroit Lions
Chicago Bears
Buffalo Bills
St. Louis Rams
San Francisco 49ers
Arizona Cardinals
Washington Redskins
Cleveland Browns
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
New York Jets
Tennessee Titans
Jacksonville Jaguars
Oakland Raiders

Potential improvements upfront and outside and it's wise to think this is a top 10 offense. We'll see if the additions fit in as hoped and stay in as you always have to hope with injuries always a factor.

lol at twisting stats to make the offense seem better

When you're 25th in yards and 16th in points you are pretty bad.

We're lucky the D was so good or they would have scored even less.

Well that defense, which I admit were pretty good, was nearly last in turnovers, so they really weren't gifting the offense with a ton of gimme points if that is what you are trying to say.

Defense wasn't great in yards or Time of Possession.
And as mentioned were allergic to grabbing the football.

Bend and then stonewall in the redzone was how it went. Allowed only a lot of FGs.

Top rate team in Kick Off and Punt returns is where some of the good starts the offense got.

The defense's job is to keep the other team from scoring. If they create opportunities for points, that's icing.

And if you're going to use that excuse for Alex, please die.

Because that is just ****ing pathetic.

Not as bad as in the playoff game up 3 scores in the late third/early 4th quarter hiking the ball with 10 seconds on the playclock and then making throws toward the sideline...but yeah the guy has fugged up some crucial game time situations due to not being fully prepared.

He is very disappointing in some aspects of his game, but he is also very impressive in other aspects.

I'm of the opinion that he will really start to come out of his shell and play a lot more loose going forward. Some of my reasoning on that...

Urban Meyers comments about him and "when he masters the offense..." Which should be going into his third year.

The fact our only deep threats (Avery and Wilson) last year were hurt basically all year...except for the last 4-5 games for Wilson...and in those games Alex was putting air under the ball.

The addition of a great plug n play receiver in Maclin that has the tools to get open anywhere and knows the offense front and back.

The progression of Wilson in his second year when Alex already trusts him.

Having a whole year with the possession guy in Avant. A lot of guys here hate Avant, but the guy is fluent in the offense, has great hands, runs the routes effectively and is a rare vet that actually wants to help the young guys.

The progression of Deanthony Thomas. Kid is being given more responsibility this year and has the tools to be electric consistently.

Kelce being improved by starting the year 100%. He gave an interview that said the reason Fasano started a lot to begin the year was because Travis' knee was not fully healed and that he didn't get to 100% till mid season. I'm expecting him to be an all pro.

Adding Conley to the mix is very intriguing because he's a freak and will be in single coverage all year. He will have opportunities to make a lot of splash plays because of that.

Figuring Charles and the running game into this means defenses won't be able to just drop 6 into coverage all game without Charles having career days. They will be forced to play us honest and that means we should be an explosive offense.

I'm expecting Alex to set career highs in most categories and by years end to be on a whole other level as a player.

If he doesn't, you won't hear me making excuses.

This will be the most talented offense he has ever been on and it's not even close.

Time to put all those "gigabytes" to use.
