Discussion: Who should we consider for our first rd pick?

It’s that time fellas! Little over 3 weeks out and it’s in our house!

I’ll put 2 options here.

1. Who do we pick if we sign a vet WR (Hopkins?) before the draft.

2 who do we pick if we don’t sign anyone else before the draft.

Who ya got?

My fear with Niang is that he’s had major surgeries I his hip and knee the last 3 years. Those are pretty devastating injuries. We’re not talking about a hamstring issue lasting a a month or so. This man had to go under the knife twice.

He’s a big guy. I mean damn man. Multiple injuries like that on a big guy is concerning. It makes me wonder if that is going to affect his play moving forward

If you have fears about Niang, you should REALLY have fears about Toney. Toney's injuries almost never require surgery, which means they've never been surgically corrected, they just require extended time to heal. And he literally gets them ALL the time.

I don't like depending on Niang any more than the next guy but if you really think Niang's injuries a bigger problem than Toney's, I don't know what to tell you.

Brown played LT in college and played a season pretty much at LT for the Ravens. So he at least had proven tape and experience. Taylor doesn't.

The fact that they started Wylie at RT for a year and a half should tell you they don't think they need a bunch of highly drafted OTs.
The Chiefs actually spent $80 million on a RT that they plan on playing him at the LT spot, but nobody actually knows if the switch will work out this early in the season. To be fair Mahomes has the tendency to make our tackles and WRs look better, so it's likely to work in time with growing pains, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't invest a first round draft pick in protecting the best QB in the NFL now. Niang has been hurt most of his career, so the Chiefs couldn't of gave him his shot at RT, and he is also a unknown as to whether or not he'll be able to remain healthy a whole season.

The guys that actually contributed meaningful snaps (other than MVS) are all gone.

If you truly think the OT position is worse off than WR, you're kidding yourself.
Taylor has had ONE above average season in the league and all of a sudden he's Mitchel Schwartz? Smh talent wise Toney is on a different level ffs and showed it on the biggest stage.

How's about drafting a WR in round 2 or 3?

Make no mistake about it, the Chiefs did not give Taylor $80M to play RT.
While I tend to agree, didn't they pay Schwartz quite a bit? Plus they paid a fortune for Thuney (worth it). While you are probably right, the possibility that they paid him what they did might not guarantee that he plays LT.

The more I think about it the more I think he is Plan B in the off chance they can't snag a top LT in the draft. If they do, Taylor might play LT this year and the rookie at RT (similar to Fisher) and then switch next year. If they don't get a top LT, then Taylor becomes the team's LT.

What if the plan is to draft Mazi Smith, and Jacqlin Roy because we have nothing at DT going forward?

Don't know. If that happens than Taylor is the LT. We still have a guy named Jones at DT though.
