So this was on RockMNation the other day and I wanted to post it. This was one of the most fun games of football I have ever been to in person still have a chunk of the field goal post in my office. Can't believe it has been 10 years...was just an incredible weekend in Columbia...wasn't even 21 yet...
http://www.rockmnation.com/2013/10/1...10-nebraska-24 That play getting Brad Smith the ball back across the field and the things he did with space. What a joy he was to watch. |

Not really. Given all of the injuries, it was little doubt that we had trouble winning. Had Mizzou finished 5-7 this season, the arguments would have begun to appear legitimate.

Yea, shit just wasn't going right in anyway...I think the thing that kept me on board was even with all the issues we were close to beating Florida AND Georgia last year. Having said that I was getting frustrated that no matter unfair some of the blame was our recruiting was hurting so bad with the issues.

Every snap hitting the QB in the ankle, causing him to bend over to pick it up off the ground, by the time he straightened up he had 3 guys in his face and had to bail out.
Every play. That was a little frustrating to watch. Yeah we held it together against a couple teams and didn't totally give up last year, but it was a bad year. I can't believe how we're beating teams this year. We're obviously the better team on the field. It's not like we're squeaking out last second FGs to win. |

There is little doubt that we're going to lose some games and the haters will return in full force. Pinkel can't make adjustments, Pinkel's too dumb, or whatever. The haters will still have their day.

I'm one of the most positive Mizzou fans I know, and even I had lost faith in this staff at the start of this year.
I severely underestimated the effect the elevation of Josh Henson would have on the offensive playcalling, design and execution. He has taken it to a much higher level. It helps that his team is healthy, but it's clear to everyone the scheme is better and more effective against teams with similar or superior athletic ability than Yost's was. He's as big a star as Pinkel thinks he is. Guy is awesome. I also severely underestimated how good the DEs were going to be. I thought Sam and Ealy would be a solid duo, with Markus Golden potentially busting out as a star in the background. I did not anticipate Sam playing at a first-team All-American level and Ealy playing well enough to make me worry he'd jump to the NFL after this year. Not only does Missouri have the best starting DE tandem in the SEC, it also potentially has the best overall DE (Sam has outperformed Clowney, Drew) and the best depth. Just awesome. The secondary also has taken some big strides, even from earlier this season. The complete fall off the cliff recruiting took over the close of 2012 and the start of this year, combined with the nepotic dead weight being carried on the staff (Bruce Walker, Brian Jones, Alex Grinch, even Henson being promoted internally over good external candidates) made for a pretty bleak outlook at the start of the year. It seems like Grinch and Henson are proving wrong the thoughts that they hold their jobs only because of nepotism. Even Jones has gotten some stuff done on the recruiting trail. I imagine Walker has made another $2 million on the stock market. Not sure what else he has done...

Just think if Florida State would have accepted the SEC bid in 1992 instead of South Carolina. Talk about crazy Columbia would be this weekend.

He thinks, even with the amount of love FSU's WRs are getting, that Mizzou's are better. Which kind of surprised me, but hey...good to hear, right?

We were watching a 6-0 team whip up on the Gators, and the usual idiots were bitching about Pinkel. It's one thing for people to have thought he should go in the offseason. That was understandable. At this point, if you're still calling for Pinkel's head every time someone drops a pass, you are an idiot and should be treated as such.

They're freaking good. I am as far from being a Pinkel apologist as a person could be and was firmly entrenched in the camp that wanted him gone this past off season but he has earned a stay of execution. One usually goes w/ the other and in this case does but they are 7-0 AND are really good.
To your point I can't imagine anyone not just being thrilled at this point. It's MU and we beat GA and Fla on consecutive weekends and are 7-0 what do you want? Our opps seem to be all catching the bad breaks w/ injuries that hit us last year. That's football as it usually evens out over time but it is kinda strange that it would happen to 2-3 of them all at once the very next year.

Given the fact that we are without our QB and our best secondary player, I'm not sure anything is evening out. We are just overcoming the negatives this year.

It's a far cry from being 6 starters down like Fla was or having all your skill players on ice as Ga was. IDK about Fla (in fact I doubt it) but Ga was a better football team than us at full strength. Whereas we were losing games last yr for the same reason (Vandy, possibly Ga among others) we may have won otherwise.
We've been inj free more or less. Those are just 2 high profile players and positions so it stands out. And obviously you are right about us having quality depth in both cases.
