If the Chiefs go 8-8 or better 49ers get a 2nd round pick.
A third- or second-rounder from Kansas City, the remnant of the Alex Smith deal. Now it can be told: The second draft choice San Francisco will receive from the Smith deal will be K.C.'s second-rounder in 2014 if the Chiefs go 8-8 or better this season. It will be a third-rounder in 2014 if Kansas City is under .500 this season.
So: San Francisco will probably have first-, second- and four third-rounders next year. But if the Chiefs surprise, it'll more likely be a one, two twos and three threes. As we've seen, GM Trent Baalke is dangerous with extra picks in his hands. If Colin Kaepernick is very good, the Niners should be annual contenders for years with the picks laid out that way. Yep prob right- most teams look to pass now first and run if they have too. I just have Always thought of the Steelers with a good d and a smash mouth type running game.

Completely different teams. You have it that things will always be exactly how they have been. Besides you said Alex will either be benched or hurt anyway- but now you are saying he is going to be the next Kurt Warner??

All of these legitimate questions in this thread. Only slightly under three months until we know anything.

I liked Belcher as a player, but Nico Johnson is a big upgrade to him as a natural Mike linebacker. Combine with Hali, Johnson and Houston, the Chiefs should have the best linebacking corps in the entire NFL. They'll tear shit up this next season if the offense has any degree of ball control (and with that offensive line, Charles, Bowe, Fasano and A. Smith, there is no reason to believe that they won't). Sean Smith is not being asked to be the #1 guy and should prove to be a solid #2 opposite of Flowers. DeVito is an upgrade to Dorsey and Poe was getting better every game by the end of the season. Jackson is playing for his future in the NFL and should be much better suited to a one-gap defense than the two gap read/react of Crennel, as should Bailey. Special teams should be terrific if they can get a good return game out of Wylie (or whoever emerges in that role, though Wylie should be the guy based on his college production in that role and his speed). This is the real team that should be the true Dark Horse playoff team in 2013 that many pundits predicted last season. |

Next Warner? You have Pat seem to have this thing about implying people said things they didn't. It's really weird. Last edited by BigCatDaddy; 05-14-2013 at 06:16 PM.. |

Reid has always been a pass first guy. Like I said, coaches don't change to that extent. He's still going to be a pass first guy. He will fit that to what he has, but we aren't going to see the 9ers type of gameplan anytime soon from him. Like I said with Romeo, guys don't change. You hire them for what they've done and hope they can repeat it here. If you are hiring someone hoping they change into what you want, you are doing it wrong. |

For a single 3rd rounder, that's a good deal. For the 34th pick in the 2013 draft and the 45th to 70th pick in the 2014 draft, that is a rip. Isn't that all this is about. It is not a matter of having another mediocre cast-off but about what price he came with. The Chiefs decided they would rather do without 2 high draft picks than take someone worse than Smith and use those 2 high picks for future starters. That is all this is about. Signed out of free agency or for a single mid-round pick, Alex Smith is an awesome place holder QB as long as you need him. Then because Alex Smith is such a good QB, you are never going to be in the basement where your chance is best to find an elite QB prospect. You are not doomed having winning seasons every year, but it makes it a lot harder to find your franchise QB. I like Seattle's formula much better than the Chiefs. |

So Andy Reid didn't play ball control football with a rookie 3rd round QB who was forced into action because of injuries, but we are thinking thats what he's going to do here with an 8 year vet coming off his best two seasons?
I don't see it. We are going to try and put up points by throwing the football, same as Reid has always done. |

I think Alex can be a QB on a winning team the same was he was with the 9ers, the same way Johnson was with the Bucs, the same was Dilfer was with the Ravens, and the same was Grossman was with the Bears. |

thats why in the offseason between 2011-2012, they signed Mario, Randy, brought in Celek, drafted aj jenkins, and drafted lemichael james. there was a limit of weapons, especially when Josh Morgan got hurt, Braylon became a distraction, and the wr's were Michael Crabs, swain, hastings, and kyle williams. But your point is a solid one. I will say this. some guys are alex smith, but, then again some guys are Blaine gabbert, Cassel, fitzpatrick, and give the ball away like its a charity.....

I've never pretended to know jack about the current Chiefs. I am saying what I know about Alex. That's it. I quit liking the Chiefs after Marty Schottenheimer resigned. The only reason I liked the Chiefs was because I liked Marty Schottenheimer from when he coached the Browns.
I hated crybaby John Elway with a passion for refusing to go to the Baltimore Colts. I wanted to see Bernie Kosar and the Browns crush Elway, but Elway had eyes in the back of his head and he would beat the Browns in the playoffs EVERY ****ING TIME! I hate Elway and can't wait for Peyton to retire so the Broncos collapse when he is gone. I don't know jack squat about the Chiefs and I never pretended anything different, unlike some people on this board who I will not name. |
