laying sod is easier and much, much quicker. But if you're going to seed, you need to start preparing now. Next month is time to plant.

I overseeded about a month ago and put down fertilizer, been watering up until last week and the water bill was up 20 bucks. The new grass is about 3" tall but very fine and coming in nicely. Today I look out the window and have no less than 8 neighbor kids playing tag and riding bikes through the yard. You know, I don't want to be "The Get Off My Lawn Dude" but I almost came unglued.

Alright, has anyone started getting ready for spring?
I just spread some Dimension pre-emergent to keep the grabgrass away this spring. I think I'm going to start applying this stuff every 4 months for a few years to keep all of the embedded seeds from germinating. I'm also about to order a plug aerator since I have compaction issues with clay soil. Water tends to run off instead of soak in right now. |

Last year was the worst for my yard (I was too aggressive with the nutsedge product!!), so much care and feeding and watering and seeding will go into the lawn this year. And the robotics team might get an out-of-cycle request for to aerate and verticut - if they can fit it in. It's my son's former HS team, and they're awesome, so money well spent for that task. |
