Fallout 3

Sorry if it's a repost, but I'm seeing a lot of talk about this... thought we might centralize the discussion.

This makes me excited.

During a March 21, 2008 Official Xbox Magazine podcast interview, Todd Howard revealed that the game had expanded to nearly the same scope as Oblivion. There were 500 versions of the final cutscene, but due to recent upgrades, there are now over 10,000 different versions, which was determined by all of the actions taken by the player.

For such an absolutely incredible game, the ending is extremely illogical and disappointing.

It slightly colors my opinion of the game, but overall it's one of the best game I've ever played.

Basically. Last weekend was truly despicable in terms of how many hours I spent playing it. There's no in-game clock, but beating all but 3 of the side missions and the main storyline took about 50 hours. The last two or three storyline missions really picked up the pace, and in comparison to other missions, didn't take much time at all.

Actually, my first run was my good guy run. My good karma was essentially maxed by the time I ended the game. Fallout 3 more than any other game really made it hard for me to be a bad guy, but during my second run I'm going to be ruthless.

Damn..50 hours, huh?

I've been playing pretty hardcore and I've only logged about 24. And I'm one bad mothafucka. Killing innocent people and stealing everything I can. And loving every minute of it.

Too bad this game's gonna take the backseat for quite a while tonite at 12.

Looking at my savestate dates, from the first save to the last, the game took me about 44.5 hours to complete.

I won't get GoW2 until Saturday, so I'm about to run through the game once more.

ROCKVILLE, Md., Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Bethesda Softworks(R), a ZeniMax Media company, announced that its hit title, Fallout(R) 3 has enjoyed record sales at launch, reflecting the huge consumer demand for the game. Approximately 4.7 million units of Fallout 3 were shipped worldwide last week for the Xbox 360(R) video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION(R)3 computer entertainment system, and Games for Windows(R) representing retail sales in excess of $300 million.

Released on October 28 in North America at midnight store openings in over 2,000 retail outlets nationwide jammed with fans eager to get the game, Fallout 3 quickly became one of the industry's top sellers around the world. For example, in the United Kingdom where it was not released until Friday, October 31 the rapid sales of Fallout 3 have led the game to be ranked number one among all video games, as well as being the number one game on each of its three platforms.

Hailed as one of the most anticipated games of 2008, Fallout 3 received a 10 out of 10 review score from Official Xbox Magazine, a result then repeated around the world with perfect scores by some of the industry's most influential and respected critics including: Gamespy, GamePro, UGO, the Associated Press, MSN, The Washington Post, Guardian, FHM, Scripps Howard, G4- TV, The Toronto Star, MSN, and Eurogamer. MSNBC's review offered the observation that it viewed "Fallout as a no-brainer for game of the year." The Daily Star in the UK echoed that conclusion, saying "You can hold all bets on game of the year -- I think we have a winner."

Yeah..that article doesn't surprise me at all.

This game really ought to win game of the year. The graphics may be sort of meh at times and the 3rd persion view is bad...but the gameplay is astounding and the story is captivating.

I don't know whats missing, but Fallout 3 really isn't gripping me like I expected it to. Its a good game, but I'm not being driven to play it like Oblivion or even Fable 2. I don't really like the combat system. It has a mediocre story and a barren empty world, but that's typical for Bethesda games. It has fewer quests and things to do than other Bethesda games and most of them aren't very interesting. I just don't see GOTY material here.

I suspect this is how my wife will be. I, on the other hand, love it. I'm at work now, and already thinking about what I want to do in Fallout when I get home.

More action would make it a first-person shooter. For me, that would take it down a couple notches.

This is pretty much what I expected.

For me, Fallout 3 is actually a little heavy on the action. I'd like more towns and more factions, like the guilds in Oblivion.
