~~SNOWMAGEDON 2014~~

A major winter storm is approaching KC, (and a big portion of the midwest). How are you preparing?

There is a lot of anger and vemon spewed towards the rear windows.

Seriously, some engineering nerd thought a little piece of plastic would hold up?

What, are you under 5' tall?

Those things are not made for people who outgrew the toddler stage.

My trail blazer does really well in snow and ice. I don't have big gnarly tires on it either. It's not as good as my pickup (that has a little more aggressive tires on it), but it is better than almost everything else.

EDIT: My WIFE'S Trail Blazer. I need to remember my place in all this.

We traded off a Yukon three years ago for a Buick Enclave. Its a great driver and comfy. But in snow it is a danger. Selling it with only 47000 miles and getting a new Yukon. Wfe can't be without 4wd and Im not buying another small car with traction control bullshit

Is there anyone you won't help? I dig out the old couple across from me. I clear out my neighbors drive and walkway when her work takes her out of town and it snows. The guy next to me though, he clears one little spot on his windshield to see out of, makes no attempt to clear a path, gets in his economy sized vehicle and tries to gun his way out to the street and of course gets stuck halfway in his driveway and the street. He does it every time it snows and I refuse to help him.

I'm 6'1"/250# and fit quite nicely in Mrs. Radar's Liberty.
When the English come to town we'll haul up to 5 adults around in it, tight squeeze but livable.

Is that the terrain type unibody setup?

Wife's trail blazer is full framed and standard 4wd. It has traction control but you can shut it off.

6'3

I drive a Yukon.

The Liberty is small, but my wife is only 5'3. We have taken it up in the mountains quite a bit and it has plenty of room for me (since I always drive )

I was dead set on buying a Trailblazer until my wife talked me into test-driving the Liberty. To be honest, I didn't even consider the little Liberty to be an option. I was very surprised. The Liberty was a lot better than the Trailblazer in the snow, and had a lot better acceleration. It was a lot simpler, and simpler = less broken shit.

It might be different now, but 5 years ago it was an easy decision.

Speaking of cars: my wife recently bought an Acura RDX Turbo with AWD. It's done very, very well in the snow.

No replacement for my old 4Runner, but it's close to Subaru as far as handling the snow.

My Subaru has been beasting in the snow. I've seen 4x4 trucks getting stuck as I keep chugging along.

They don't make trail blazers anymore. Or any small full framed SUV for that matter. Wife's is bottom of the line as far as trim goes. It's pretty damned simple. It doesn't have the v8, but that 4.2 inline 6 (I was like wtf and almost didn't buy it because of the motor) does well. Even when wife thinks she's Andretti.

I hope that bitch lasts for 30 years because if I save every dime, it'll take that long before I can afford a Tahoe.
