I disagree. We could still use him, big time.

DAT should be the gadget slot option, McCluster should be the possession slot option. We need reliable hands receivers and McCluster was actually pretty terrific in the 4th quarter. He is a significant upgrade over Hemmingway.

For what he is getting paid in Tennessee?

Mccluster became an excellent hands receiver. The decision to move him back into a utility role was beyond stupid. Put him back into a slot and think of him as a receiver instead of a gadget receiver, and he will be an effective receiver for your team.
McCluster is dogshit as a WR.

I've disagreed a lot with your takes, but this one might be the worst.

McCluster a possession option? GTFO.

Nope. I said he was overpaid because they want to use him like a playmaking gadget.

If a team with a brain gave him a contract, they'd give him a smaller contract to be an effective slot possession receiver, which he is.

Give me a break.

The polarization of Chiefsplanet is hilarious.

He isn't dogshit of a receiver. He actually became a very good receiver. Runs good routes, and has surprisingly terrific hands. In almost every game the second half of last season, he had a huge catch for a first down in the 4th quarter.

If you took a room full of stupid, compressed it, and under high pressure were to extract it's essence...this is what you'd get.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

You are the definition of polarizing overreactor if you see any stupid in any of these statements:
-Dexter McCluster developed very good hands
-Dexter McCluster became a good route runner
-Dexter McCluster is a better option than Junior Hemmingway, who only has 89 yards this season

Is CP seriously this ****ing polarizing that they want to call McCluster dog shit just because they don't like him? McCluster isn't a gadget receiver. He's not a playmaker. He's not a yards after carry guy. He's not a better slot receiver for playmaking plays versus DAT. So yeah, the guy isn't even close to as good as we thought he was.

But McCluster became a solid #4 option (or 3b... whatever you want to call it) and was a solid 3rd down option, and in fact over half of his yards last year (268 total) came on third down situations. Toward the end of last year, it became clear he was one of Smith's favorite targets in the 4th quarter.

It is exactly this kind of mentality that has limited his game. He is not a deep threat, but he's got plenty of game in the intermediate routes.

You are essentially trying to carry water in a paper bag rather than a paper towel.
That's the rough difference between McCluster and Hemingway.

Dexter was NEVER a solid route runner in the slot/at WR. He was ****ing terrible.

Dexter was an excellent weapon as a HB out of the backfield like Kevin Faulk or in a role similar to Sproles (while nowhere near as productive.)

Comparing him to Jr. Hemmingway is like comparing my foot to my ear.

And that right there, in your own words, is why he's nowhere near what he was paid and every reason to let him go...

No he doesn't. He's not good at anything past 10 yards.

I bet he has less than 10 intermediate area catches in his career.

I disagree. I hardly think McCluster was all world. But he was a reliable hands receiver once the Chiefs figured out how to use him correctly, and a solid 3rd down option. I'm arguing people who call him dogshit. He was a role receiver, not a playmaker. Once people realize that and you look at his play from that perspective, he was just fine as a player. Not spectacular, but can definitely be useful for most teams.
