HBO has given the production order.

They will be filming the pilot episode of A GAME OF THRONES.

It's just the pilot so far. They'll need to see that before they decide whether to proceed with a full season's episodes. So let's all hope the pilot will kick serious ass.

It should. David Benioff and Dan Weiss did a terrific job with the script. And yes, all of you can relax, it's very faithful. Dan and David will be the executive producers for the pilot and (we hope) the eventual series.

More details when I have 'em. The news is very fresh. HBO just issued their own press release, which should be up on their website soon, if it's not there already.

Winter is coming to HBO. Hot damn.

Agreed. Half Blood Prince was outstaning. Probably my second favorite in the series. I'm guessing what you were saying about book 5 being a bridge is more true than not, and I'm also expecting big things from Winds Of Winter.

I also thought his release of Edmure was an excellent chapter, but that was Feast. The one chapter of Jaime in Dance deals with him negotiating with some other lord for his castle as well, but it was nobody I cared about. Raventree or Blackwood or something like that. I'd have rather GRRM used that space to show us a little of what happened after he goes off with Brienne, or to give us a Brienne POV so we have some idea how Brienne is not dead in the first place.

Regarding Jon:

Outside of the prologue and epilogue, no POV character has ever died (permanently, at least) as a result of what happened to him/her at the end of a POV chapter. Examples are Aria getting hit in the head with Hound's ax (he just knocked her out), Catelyn getting her throat slit (sure she died, but was brought back to life), and Brienne getting hung (obviously she got over that). I am 99.9% sure that Jon will survive his chapter-ending attack in much the same fashion - there's just too much invested in the character to end him like that.

I would also note that we really haven't lost any primary characters over the course of the last two books. The last one to die was Tywin at the end of SoS.

I'm still not convinced that GRRM didn't kill him. There are too many parallels - chief among them: Be a Stark, violate your honor/vows and you die.

He's a warg, so he's probably going to end up in Ghost.

Or Maybe Mellisandre will find a way to bring him back and he'll be the 'prince re-born' if in fact Stannis is dead.

But I still think there's a 50/50 shot that the kid is dead in some fashion. If for no other reason than for GRRM to once again establish that nobody gets plot armor, not even Jon Snow. He's never been above a big ol' "**** you" to his readers.

He almost has to be Azor Ahai doesn't he? In the Melisandre POV chapter, she talks about seeing Jon's face in the flames, and then she comes right out and says that every time she asks Rhollor to show her Azor Ahai, he shows her "Snow" with a capital S. That's a pretty strong hint that will make no sense if he is not Azor Ahai. Then you have the end where there's a bleeding star (ser patrick's sigil after the Giant kills him) and smoke (smoking wounds which is odd wording if not meant to evoke the prophecy).

Plus, if GRRM kills off Jon, who will take over the POV to tell the story on the Wall? Melisandre? Ned had many replacements as far as characters go, Jon really has none. I think he lives...somehow.

Melisandre was my thought; there had to be a reason he put in the single POV chapter.

Then again, maybe it was to provide more foundation for the Azor Ahai (thanks, couldn't come up with his name) theory.

Ultimately I think that's the case. He's dead, he'll somehow be 'reborn' and he will be her risen red prince.

I certainly have no problem with Jon being Azor Ahai. Not really. Martin could find a way to make that work. But it seems odd to me given that the most important part of the prophecy (dragons from stone) hasn't been fulfilled by Jon Snow. However, every single part of the prophecy has been fulfilled by Dany. And Maester Aemon flat out says in Feast that he believes Dany is the promised one. Seems weird to have a smart, trustworthy character confirm it, just to give the honor to a different character. Also, it seems weird to have two different characters fulfill the same prophecy. Like I said, if that's what Martin is doing, I'm sure he'll make it work. But in the mean time, I'm going to just go with what we've been told, that Dany is the promised one.

Also, Jon Snow is not dead. Or IF he is, he won't be for long. He'll be a character in Winds, and I'll bet he's even a POV character. Just my guess. But I'll be the first to admit it, if I'm wrong.
