This is a franchise that has made the postseason 10 times in the last 14 seasons.
Reached three World Series in the last decade, and won as many championships (two) the past eight seasons as it did from 1965 to 2005.
Our new Manager has more post season experience than any other manager in baseball, except the Giants manager.
Three million attendance? Take it to the bank.
60 post season wins since 2004. 20+ wins more than any other team.
Only one of the last 14 seasons has been a losing one.

P.S. I don't really think Taveras is Rasmus part 2. I'm just saying...back in the day Cards fans thought as highly about Rasmus as they do now with Taveras =)

Shields will be a FA after this season. And, unless he was extended, I don't see how having him for a short term run would be better than having Taveras in the long term. Holland, while very good at closing, doesn't exactly solve a need right now. Rosenthal is fine as the closer, Neshek has been lights out.

8-10 games of a #3 pitcher for the #3 prospect in baseball? That's not a deal where I overvalued Taveras. That's just a shitty deal.

This. When you are drafting and developing players correctly at least you don't have to sacrifice the future for a one year chance at a playoff run. But, if we could give up Taveras for Shields and it means another WS title? Who doesn't make that trade in a heartbeat?

The dilemma is what increase in % does it give you?

I think you're forgetting that Holland is Craig Kimbrel. The Cards couldn't use Craig Kimbrel at the back of their bullpen?

I just get the feeling this team is gonna go into a major slump again. The fact is the Cards just are not that good this year even though they are not that horrible either. And If you do not have a lead into the 9th who cares how good your closer is.
