If we draft an OT at 1.1 and he's similar or better than Albert then it won't be a huge mistake for most people imo. They will say Albert was being a dick about his contract and the Chiefs did the best they could to replace him. They won't be happy about it, but it won't a huge deal The big mistake is if Geno Smith or Barkley etc turn out to be a stud. People will be referring to failure to draft a QBotF, when they had a perfect chance, for years to come .... as long as the Chiefs suck.

If this is true then Andy Reid won't be here long.

Which is why I'm not content with Joeckel/Fisher being top 10. They need to be elite, top 3 guys with 10 year shelf-lives. If you're capping your QB play at average to good, then you'd better be damn good everywhere else. And if Fisher's a lateral move from Albert, we're not getting off to a good start.

We really have no way of knowing how many INTs he's gonna throw.
The #1, or even #5 defense, doesn't exist in KC. He's also moving to a more pass-based offense. If the defense fails to meet the absurdly high expectations people on here have...Alex Smith could easily double his turnovers.

I'm basing all of my arguments on a few key reports: 1) The Chiefs scouts and Coach Reid like Geno Smith. These are from rumblings posted from various sources 2) The Bad Guy's source told us that the Chiefs a few days ago had it narrowed down to four players: Luke Joeckel, Eric Fisher, Dion Jordan, and Geno Smith That's good enough for me to know that the Chiefs actually do think Geno Smith can be a good QB, and that they would love to have him on their football team. It also stands to reason that even if Geno Smith isn't the best player on their big board, if the Chiefs were able to trade down to #4 and the previous picks before them went Joeckel, Fisher, Jordan, that Geno Smith would have to be the pick right there. If he weren't, then John Dorsey's draft philosophy that he has been espousing since he got here is completely full of shit, and he's probably just flying by the seat of his pants like all the other GMs in their war rooms. The Chiefs clearly think Geno Smith is ONE answer. I happen to think it's the best answer to the QB situation given what a fantastic position he could be in as a student and mentoree. Also, I'll get over the QB thing when this team starts to give a **** about its fans and tries to actually win something valuable. |

Personally, I don't care about Albert either way. But taking a LT with the first overall pick in the entire draft, saying he's the absolute BPA in the draft? Yeah, he needs to be more than a slight upgrade. |

Alex...not so much. You have to admit that it's pretty laughable that Cassel's two best seasons are better, statistically, than Alex Smith's, and it's no contest. More TDs, more yards per completion, playing with worse defenses to boot.

We have Bowe, Charles and a bunch of guys. Alex Smith will be doing well to hit 20 TDs.

If the guy goes out there and throws up a 1-1 TD/INT ratio, he'll either be marginalized within the offense or fired in favor of Daniel. I could see him ending in the 12-16 range, but if so he'll have also thrown 28-35 TDs. He's a tentative decision-maker with plus accuracy on intermediate throws. That's a recipe for a guy that won't throw interceptions, even when he's shitting the bed.

I do think elite Qb's are a multiplier, obviously, and yes, the rest of your team has to be very good. But I don't thinks it's where it was a few eyars ago where you basically had to have "the Guy" at QB. |

you have calmed down recently though ... kudos There isn't a player in this draft that is worth being a top 8 pick ... they are all going to be 'reaches'. At least on paper. I'm sure that in 3 years several players will become studs and people will bitch, but that happens EVERY year.

True or false:
If the Chiefs got a franchise QB, they would be legit contenders in the AFC. That's what I've been hearing on here for the better part of the Pioli years. I bought into that idea at one point myself. And I still think that outside of the QB position, we're not all that far off. Given the moves from this Chiefs regime to "win now", they seem to think the same way. So tell me again why it doesn't make sense to take out insurance and keep your options as open as possible in order to find THE QB. Go ahead and tell me that a marginal upgrade and salary cap room at the LT position is worth more than the security and comfort that your team is far more likely to find a franchise QB in Alex Smith, Chase Daniel, or Geno Smith than they are to find a franchise QB in Alex Smith, Chase Daniel, or Ricky Stanzi/2013 shitdick rookie nobody cares about |

They've never been in a real NFL offense. Guys like Avery, Fasano, etc are good players though. |
