Would you give Jones 3/100m or trade him?

We might as well start the conversation.

Aaron Donald got a 3 year extension worth 95m and Jones won’t/shouldn’t accept a penny less.

We can probably get the equivalent of 2 firsts if we trade him.

Poll will be up in a minute…

You can’t compare Tyreek and Jones in this equation. Not even remotely the same thing.

I wonder if Veach can pull off the same kind of miracle he did a couple years ago when we seemingly had $77 dollars of cap space and he somehow extended CJ/Kelce anyway. One can fervently hope so.

I really don't have anything discerning to say, as I haven't kept up with any player salaries, contracts, etc., so I have nothing intelligent/or even up to date to say about it.

I have a feeling that Veach will make CJ an offer. It'll be a good offer, but it won't be top-of-the-mountain. I hope CJ takes it and gives Veach enough margin to sign everyone else we need to sign. I'd really hate to see Chris in any other uniform, that's for sure.

There was a period in 2019-march 2021 when people wanted to spend money and be aggressive at maximizing every year we had Mahomes. Then Hill was traded and people want to be cheap all over now.

It's not really being cheap giving guys huge money for years 30-34 is usually how you get ****ed.

That's where you're supposed to find bargains with guys who wanna win.

I have a feeling the Chiefs are definitely not going to be "cheap" this coming offseason.

I know we all love Chris Jones, but let’s look at this from a different angle in terms of value.

Chris Jones

Or

Hargrave
Ngakwe
A handful of draft picks including at least a 1st and 2nd.

Meh.

I mean what, you think Hargrave is signing for minimum wage or something? He's gonna cost probably near 25/yr himself and that's IF Philly let's him go and doesn't franchise him themselves. Which they might do. We also have no idea if he fits our system.

Also, so I assume if you're trading Jones than you're re-signing OBJ. What kind of deal are you looking at giving him?

I'm glad OP at least added the option of letting Jones play out the last year of his deal. Listening to Chiefs pundits, it's like they don't even realize that's an option.

It seems straightforward to me. You try to work out an extension. If it can't be worked out, you put something out there like "We're happy to let Chris Jones play out his contract and then figure it out. Of course we'll listen to any trade inquiries, but it will take a whale of an offer."

I don't see this the same as Hill. Jones is older. DTs age very fast in the NFL. Aaron Donald might be in decline right now. I predict that even if we lose Jones at the end of next year, we've still gotten almost all of his best years.

Say you wanna trade him.

Who is gonna give you the value you want for him, knowing they have to give up picks AND pay him?

You aren't getting a top 10 pick for sure, I'm skeptical anyone in the teens is gonna wanna do that deal. So you're looking at maybe a Chiefs/ Frank Clark type return.

You gonna trade him to a contender looking for the final piece for pick 28 and a 2nd next year?

I just don't see the return being there.

The very fact that DTs age fast in the NFL is why Jones is going to want an extension after this year. And of course we can let him play out his deal but it doesn't mean he doesn't sit out during training camp or even hold out for part of the season. By that logic we have him for another 3 years if we want because we can franchise tag him twice.

Just pay him the tag number for the next 3 years on a contract, with an extra 4th year tacked on.

Seems easy enough?

That'd be a good solution.

I just dont see why you ship him off over OBJ, cause this seems to me a case of 1 or the other. I'll assume that no one here is suggesting both get traded as that would leave us with unimaginable holes to fill at the 2 most important spots other than QB.

I don’t think you could get a high pick for him bc he’s turning 29 next year. If we got a haul like the Tyreek trade, I wouldn’t think it would be good enough.

Need a top 20 pick to even consider calling a team back
