24 discussion thread (spoilers, obviously)
24 is back tonight at 7:00 CST. Anybody watch this?

I got into it at the start of last season. I don't really watch any TV except sports, but it hooked me. Tune in if you have nothing better to do... it roxxors.

The shift to DC and away from CTU should be a good move. It at least gives them fresh angles and more possibilities.

As for Tony, it sounds cheesy, but I like him so much I'm willing to suspend disbelief. I'm not going to wade back through this huge thread to find it, but I thought someone noted back then the "non-silent countdown" and that maybe it meant Tony wasn't dead.

Glad they bring Bill back, I am still extremely hesitant about the new season - I don't like shows making changes based upon PC beliefs. They took heat from being "too" right and so they added a lesbian president.

Yeah I know, it's just that I have the strong feeling that this upcoming season is supposed to make some sort of statement, and it's going to slant to the left big time, and I think we already have enough leftist representation on TV these days.

p.s. I also didnt' like Wayne Palmer but they could have done more with his character, i don't even think the writers tried last season.

For now, I'm going to assume that Joel Surnow will keep the show balanced and not let it veer leftward.

As for Palmer, I blame the actor as much as the writers. He was OK playing the brother/adviser to the president, but I don't think he was good enough to pull off being The Man. His presidential addresses were godawful -- like he was trying way too hard to come across as having gravitas.

I don't know why you guys would think it would turn into a Clinton fest.

I mean, they put a woman in the president's chair, but that's hardly novel on TV. And the fact of her 'orientation' could be seen as an insult to Clinton and not some kind of endorsement.

And who knows, they could show her as being weak and indecisive like they originally did with Logan and like they (perhaps) unintentionally did with Wayne Palmer.

The show needs to stay away from the lame subplots, like Wayne Palmer's sister and her preaching, and the excessive romance subplots. Inevitably you ruin a good thing when you bend over backward to try to broaden its appeal like that.
