HBO greenlights A Game of Thrones pilot! (spoilers)

EDIT: Changed the original header to mark this as the thread where spoilers are allowed (but not necessarily recommended...). Created a new, spoiler-free thread for Ice and Fire virgins...

This is awesome...

Huge, Huge News

Nov. 11th, 2008 at 10:29 PM

HBO has given the production order.

They will be filming the pilot episode of A GAME OF THRONES.

It's just the pilot so far. They'll need to see that before they decide whether to proceed with a full season's episodes. So let's all hope the pilot will kick serious ass.

It should. David Benioff and Dan Weiss did a terrific job with the script. And yes, all of you can relax, it's very faithful. Dan and David will be the executive producers for the pilot and (we hope) the eventual series.

More details when I have 'em. The news is very fresh. HBO just issued their own press release, which should be up on their website soon, if it's not there already.

Winter is coming to HBO. Hot damn.

You have 0 point of reference Frankie. Par for the course, though.

To me, personally, the shock of the Bran incident was much stronger in the book because it seemed like he was going to be a major, major character at the time. On film, however, he was just one of Lord Stark's kids... Just a single example of why I would recommend the books first.
I had already seen the TV version when I started reading book 1 so was expecting Bran to fall. Didn't get the surprise in the book but I got it on the TV show. Going forward it will be the opposite. I'm looking forward to how the visually present certain things that happen/exist in the books.

I've hit a wall on book 4. Can't get into it for some reason. I'll continue in due time, but not into it like I was the first 3.

Yeah, I just didn't feel like they built up his importance enough on film. Was it more of a shock that someone (Jamie) would do something like that to a child (Bran)? Or was it like "Wait, holy shit, I thought this guy was going to go on to become some great knight hero who doubles as spider man and this just happened..." Also, as you now know, GRRM didn't go back to Bran for a while so the reader had to pretty much assume the worst.

This is pretty typical for most readers. I loved Book 4. Probably my second favorite in the series. But I get that I'm in the minority. I promise, though, it really is worth finishing.

There are supposed to be at the very least 2 more books (maybe more). As of right now, 5 books have been released.

I was expecting to be hung up in book 4 since most folks do, but I tore through book 4 and really enjoyed it.

Yup, I loved Feast of Crows. Book 5 was slower for me, but still good.

Just got started on the BBC show 'Misfits.' Took me well into the 2nd episode to realize where I'd seen the one kid's Mum before. Catelyn. Strange to see here as a suburban single mother.

Dance was easily the slowest one for me. Which is interesting because it's the first one I had to wait for. Game - Feast were all published once I started reading. So, maybe that had something to do with it. I don't know. Could also be why so many who read the first three but had to wait for Feast didn't like Feast as much. Or maybe it's just taste.

Anyway, it's an amazing series. And even though I found it slow, over written and in need of some editing, Dance is still a wonderful book; full of imagination and suspense.

Also, I'm a huge fan of Arya. And here story in Feast is outstanding.
