Bills fans acknowledge hopelessness after watching SB

Porn posted in the predawn hours after the Chiefs victory in SBLVII. They also have a 100 post Zayne Anderson thread and dreams of poaching Wylie and Neon Deon Bush

Trade for Diggs was the best move, and even then you could argue they would've been better off taking Jefferson or even a handful of WRs taken afterwards.

Yeah, for whatever reason, they've been incapable of getting their drafted guys on the field.

They spent a ton of draft resources on their defense and always ended up coming up a bit short, whether it's all the middling DE's they've drafted or moves like drafting Elam and him not being able to get playing time.

Even the Bears 46 defense was named after a safety (Fencik, I think it was?), and worked primarily because of 1)a dominant pass rush and 2) the particular abilities of specific players. Same with the Tampa 2. Same with the 2000 Ravens. It goes on, and on.

The Bills defense looked really good until Von Miller got hurt and other injuries piled up.

Frazier knows they're not going to be as good this year, and if they tank, it hurts his career opportunities.
The Bills zone system works best against average to below average arm talents.

The more I look at that list the worse it becomes. 4 project DL that haven't panned out as expected (Rousseau may be an exception if he can produce without Miller opposite him), an OT that was traded, and a CB and RB that can't get on the field.

Part of that is because of the way that rules are skewed towards the offense. I will say that SB 53 was a defensive masterpiece, but overall I agree with what you are saying.

Vikings got the better end of that Diggs trade for sure.

Oooof. Their roster is on the precipice of needing an actual rebuild. Gaping holes along both the OL and DL, a crowded room of JAGs at RB, no one at WR opposite of Diggs, a LB group that may be totally depleted if Edmunds leaves, and a once elite secondary badly aging and stagnating.

The Bills roster now is very close to what Veachs biggest detractors accused him of turning the Chiefs into. QB, elite offensive playmaker, JAGs and holes.

Oh, and on top of all that they're currently 16 million OVER the cap with no real fixes besides kicking the can on some contracts that ought best be left alone.

Biggest problem for the Bills is they don’t have an offensive coach. This league mandates that. Just look at what Dabboll did for Josh Allen?

McDermott is a good coach but he’s in the wrong era for his philosophy.

As many of us have said for a couple years now - it's the ****ing Cover 2. It's nothing novel or interesting. It's no sort of panacea. It fell out of favor for a reason and in all likelihood it will go back to the dustbin of history in the next couple of seasons.

It's just too damn easy to attack underneath and up the middle. It puts too much effort into slowing down the lowest percentage plays while opening itself up to getting murdered by high percentage efforts.

But for one season Mahomes took a minute to adjust to it (and by 'one season' I mean about 6 games). So suddenly Fangio was some sort of genius.

Meh. Fangio's relevance is just another testament to the greatness of Mahomes. Beat Mahomes and you get talked about as the best QB in the NFL. Slow him down for a handful of games and suddenly you're getting consulting gigs. When merely losing gracefully to a guy gets you a job, it says more about the guy that beat you than it does about you.

Doing a max restructure on Josh Allen makes sense. Beyond that, there are restructures they CAN do ... but do they WANT to ...

restructure
Diggs (30) to free up $6M?
Miller (34) to free up 12M?
Tre'Davious (I'm only 28 but looked washed after my ACL recovery) White to free up $8M?
Matt Milano (29) to free up $9M?

Do all of those and you're at $34M, which is enough to get the rookie class signed and make some smaller moves. It might not be enough to keep Edmunds.

They just don't have a lot of flexibility (and things could get PAINFUL down the road if they go this route).
