There was a restaurant on the square in Kirksville, MO in the 1970s that served "Maryland fried chicken" (the type, not the franchise by that name), which is broasted. It was indeed excellent.

When I was a kid, there was a Broasted Chicken Stand in Raytown around 66th and Blue Ridge. It was right by where that Santa Fe Trail House sits now. My grandpas house was just a couple blocks from there, and my dad would go pick up meals for them and us kids when we would visit. The broasted chicken was more like a rotisserie roasted chicken. They made wedge potatoes that were very good. Seemed like it wasn't as greasy as regular fried chicken. Think it would have a good following if somebody wanted to revive the chain in KC...

Not at the gas station, they use pressure cookers but we have a restaurant over in High Point who serves broasted chicken and it is very good too and a lot less greasy than most fried chicken.

Pepperidge Farms remembers segment here...

When I was 15 I worked for KFC and when you bought a bucket of chicken it was full. Now they realized they sold chicken by the piece and not the pound so now you get about half as much chicken by weight with the same piece count.
