Did Tony Stewart Kill Someone Tonight?

I'm seeing it on Twitter. On my phone and can't link. One of his fans says he ran over someone on a yellow and should be arrested for it.

I'm a big Tony Stewart fan, and I think he should be in deep shit for this. Your natural instinct in a car when someone jumps near you is not to steer in their direction and gas your engine. Especially not when you're one of the best drivers on the planet. Anyone saying this was an accident either doesn't know shit about auto racing (particularly dirt) or you're just a homer who doesn't want to see your favorite driver in jail. Look, he probably didn't mean to kill the kid. It's silly to think that. But he definitely meant to scare/intimidate the guy. But intent doesn't matter when you do something stupid and someone ends up dead. I've got a friend in prison for punching a guy in a nightclub. Guy falls, hits his head, lights out. Friend just meant to fight the guy, but he died. The law doesn't care whether or not you meant to do it. When he gassed his motor, that's the equivelant of a malicious physical action.

There was no way Stewart DIDNT see him though. Even with the all black suit at night. Stewart is a guy with perfect vision and probably the best track awareness of all the drivers. He saw him. The engine rev doesn't help his case at all either.

He needs to face consequences, while this is more severe than Ray Rice, the media would flip absolute shit if he was racing again soon. No amount of punishment can replace a human life, but no punishment at all would be an atrocity. The fact is that he killed another human being, if the authorities deem it accidental, then that's fine, but NASCAR needs to suspend him for at least the rest of the season and set an example. Tony Stewart knows what happened, he'll have to live with that, but NASCAR needs to value decency over tv ratings.

This. Even if he didn't mean to do it it's still vehicular manslaughter.

This x100. You can see perfectly fine out of a Sprint Car. Anyone saying he didn't see him needs to take into account that a) these guys drive those cars at 100+ mph on dirt IN PACKS. They can see perfectly fine and can react in a split second. B) the race was under caution. Not only are the cars basically supposed to travel at a minimum speed, they all know where the wrecked car is. It's no coincidence that the driver who wrecked him also hit him on the way back around.

You mean to tell me that its no coincidence that the guy he was darting down the track and pointing at in a fit of rage hit him? More breaking news at 11...

I agree with Strongside on this. I watched it several times (which doesn't make me an expert, obviously.)

But yeah, even if the argument is that he didn't see him, how do you plausibly explain speeding up? They were on a caution flag, meaning the speeds were down. If someone is in your way, you stop or at least attempt to stop.

That said, Ward obviously gets nominated for a Darwin award for trying to go all Tienanmen Square protestor too.

Jfc. If Stewart wanted to miss him he would have. He also would not have goosed it for a good 2 seconds and hauled ass down the track with a human body under his car. I don't think you guys understand how good of a driver this guy is.

You guys over exaggerate everything. "Goosed it for a good 2 seconds." He ****ing blipped the throttle for not even a second.

How do you know Stewart didn't disengage the clutch when he hit the throttle? He sure didn't appear to be going faster than any other driver on the track and his car most certainly wasn't sideways like you see when they are actually racing.

Getting out of your car on a dark dirt track to confront a moving car and get runover. Shocking turn of events.
What's the reasonable explanation for why Stewart gunned the gas right before he hit the kid?

Not sure if those cars come equipped with a horn. Could have been a message to get the **** out of the middle of the track?
