John Dorsey said if we get a qb in free agency 99% we will draft one just might not be in the first round.

1) The only teams that can afford to trade into No. 1 overall are the other teams in the top 10. Value just can't match up otherwise. 2) Luke Joeckel and Eric Fisher have nearly identical grades, and there is not a consensus about which is the top guy. 3) Lane Johnson made a lot of money at the Combine and is now viewed as someone who is potentially a top 10 talent. He also is the best athlete of the three and probably has the highest ultimate upside The gap between he and the top 2 guys is not tremendous. 4) If someone DID want to trade up, they could trade into No. 4 for a much lower cost than No. 1 and STILL likely get either Joeckel or Fisher, and certainly get Johnson. Or they could sit pat at their pick and nab Johnson, with a shot at landing Fisher.

Speaking of Alex Smith... The Browns are said to have some interest. No surprise. Cards believe Chiefs are closing in on a trade |

People say you can't take Geno Smith No. 1 because you're not getting the value out of the pick that you need. But there ISN'T value anywhere else. If you're reaching for a guard, or drafting a LT you really don't need, you're not getting value out of the pick. Letting Albert walk and drafting Luke Joeckel is equivalent to trading No. 1 overall AND Albert for Joeckel. I can't believe you like Iuputai that much. Will Shields is the best LG in the past quarter century of the NFL, and he's going to be a Hall of Fame guy. I wouldn't even think about drafting him No. 1 overall, even in hindsight.

Trading for a game manager back up won't be a good start for Reid/Dorsey and baby Jack.

Guys.....I think you might be getting the harbinger of equal suck in Alex Smith. That Flowers tweet worries me.
What if SF was looking for a 3rd and Chiefs said "**** you." Now what if Chiefs counter offered Flowers and a 4th/5th? If so, here is what I think your draft will be. Trade down to 5-7 and get an additional 2nd round pick. You get Millner at 5-7. You draft Eric Reid at 34 and Tyler Bray with the additional 2nd. You get Bostic with one of your thirds and get Barrett Jones with the other 3rd. Then you get Knile Davis in the 4th. And then camp fodder after that. Obviously this is a stupid scenario but it could happen. |

We are kinda going in circles. I'll say this...if KC likes G. Smith as much as you guys seem to, there is no doubt he'll be the #1 pick. I just don't like him that much...and I've seen that #1 pick flame out and it really, really sucks...especially when another QB you really liked turns out to be even better than you thought he would. Can the Chiefs resign Albert? Do you lose Bowe in the process? |
