Mauk bailing from a clean pocket is one of the better things that can happen to this passing game, because it's an indication that he's likely doing what he's coached to do: make one read, then go.
You see the potential on the second TD pass when he looks off the safety and drops a dime (NFL caliber play), but it's not worth the risk of his terrible decision making leading to another Georgia game. However, since Freddie Printz Jr. isn't nearly as athletic, I see the logic in keeping him in if pass pro falters, b/c he can make plays with his legs. Overall, though, Mauk and Ricker gots to go, but this is what happens when you have shit recruiting classes at the skill positions for a few years running. Hopefully Bauer, Rhodes, and Adams are ready to challenge, if not start, next year, because this OL outside of Boehm is heinous. |

Mauk was excellent in the first half after the first three passes. He did a better job of staying in the pocket, as well. His second half was bad, but the drops didn't help. If Culkin catches that pass in the end zone that hit him in the hands, Mauk's game feels a lot different.
We can win out (regular season) if Mauk plays like he did yesterday.

There is no such thing as throwing a ball too hard to a receiver in the back of the end zone. If a guy can't catch a pass from 20 yards away when he's standing stationary with his shoulders squared with the QB, that's a receiver issue, not a failure on the QB's part.

I'm watching the replay right now on the SEC Network, and that drive is on right now. Mauk was on point the entire drive. If Culkin makes that catch, it's as good of a drive as Maty has ever led. After the drop, Mauk tries to do too much ans nearly throws a pick 6. (That play was awful, as he had wide open receivers all over the field.)

Scratch that "great drive" bit. I forgot about the horrible throw when Sasser was completely uncovered. Also mixed up the order of the near INT and pass to Culkin.

Culkin was wide open and had to jump up with his arms fully extended just to get his hands on that pass, which was in the front of the end zone. It was a terrible throw.

In spite of Mauk (and Culkin, and the OL) we somehow are 7-2 and control our destiny in the East. Weird.

Mauk had two defenders laying him out, and the ball went through Sean's hands. A D-1 Tight End has to make that catch.

Missouri is 28th in the AP Poll. Behind USC, Colorado St and Wisconsin to get back in the Top 25.

I was just checking out the stats on ESPN, Shane Ray is pretty much a lock as SEC DPOY right?

Ray has an outside shot at 20 sacks. Charlie Campbell of WalterFootball had him sixth in his last mock. Scott Wright had him in the late 20's, IIRC. Either way, he's a completely disruptive force on the football field and borderline unblockable.
