Here's the "Official Canon", for anyone interested:

http://www.ew.com/article/2015/11/16...9680c5d4881f5c

THE NOVELS

The area of the most rapid expansion, the canon novels dive deep into characters, settings, and ideas introduced in the films.

Dark Disciple
To track down Count Dooku, the Jedi Council turns to an unlikely pair, Jedi Knight Quinlan Vos and a Sith named Asajj Ventress.

A New Dawn

The early days of Rebels hero Kanan are explored in this companion novel.

Battlefront: Twilight Company

This off-shoot of the upcoming video game follows the brave men and women of the 61st Mobile Infantry as they face impossible odds against the Empire.

Lost Stars
A young-adult novel that spans the width of the Star Wars saga from the perspective of two childhood friends, Ciena Ree and Thane Kyrell, including some material from after Return of the Jedi.

Tarkin
The Death Star commander didn’t exactly hang around long enough for us to get to know him, something this book — a look back at his life before going boom — aims to fix.

Lords of the Sith

The villains-only tale is as close to a road movie starring Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine as we’ll ever get.

Heir to the Jedi
Luke narrates this tale of his solo mission to rescue a gifted cryptographer from the Empire.

The Weapon of the Jedi, Smuggler’s Run, and Moving Target
The trio of YA novels follow Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia, respectively, at different moments between the films of the original trilogy.

Aftermath
What happened immediately after the second Death Star exploded? This series of vignettes shows a less decisive victory than we imagined.

THE COMIC BOOKS

Much like how Marvel Comics structures their superhero titles, their Star Wars series focus on individual characters and one major flagship book.

Kanan: The Last Padawan

Before he was Kanan, the rogue Jedi’s names was Caleb Dum, and he somehow managed to survive Order 66. This is his story.

Lando
The most charming man in the galaxy, Lando Calrissian gets in over his head when he pulls off a caper to steal a highly valuable ship.

Shattered Empire

The only title yet to venture into the post-Return of the Jedi era, it follows our heroes through the lens of new character Shara Bey, who has a major Force Awakens connection.

Marvel’s Star Wars

The gang’s all here for a mission taking place between Episodes IV and V that captures the excitement and humor of the original films. (First arc was collected as Skywalker Strikes.)

Darth Vader
The Dark Lord of the Sith is busy after spinning off into the vastness of space in A New Hope, embedding himself in the outer-space underworld.

Princess Leia

The original intergalactic damsel in distress gets her own series, where she takes center stage and packs a powerful blaster.

Chewbacca
In his own title, the Millennium Falcon’s furry co-pilot finds himself stranded on an Imperial-controlled planet without any of his allies to help.

THE MOVIES

Episodes I-VI
When Disney and Lucasfilm hit the reset button on the Star Wars Expanded Universe in 2014, the original three films and three prequels remained the cornerstone of the canon. The rest is composed of novels, comic books, games, an animated series, and films — all of which widen our understanding of the characters and events contained within these six episodic movies. They are the urtext — the center of the new universe.

THE TV SERIES

Televised journeys into the galaxy have all been animated and fill in the action between the episodic films.

Star Wars: Rebels

Set before A New Hope, this series follows a team of all-new characters, led by the Jedi-in-training Ezra, as they form the roots of the Rebel Alliance.

The Clone Wars

Styled after the film of the same name, this iteration of the series continues the story of Obi-Wan, Anakin Skywalker, and the young Jedi’s Padawan, Ahsoka Tano.

THE VIDEO GAME

Star Wars: Uprising
The first canon video game allows you to save the universe on your cell phone. This mobile app follows a group of Rebels as they continue their fight against the Empire after the events of Return of the Jedi.

It would be far more interesting, IMO, if he was a new villain that was completely outside the family tree, much like Darth Maul.
I agree it would be cool. But just in the sayings in the trailers, the eyes, my family has it, and kylo saying OUR. on top of that the title is The Force Awakens... I think this all ties to the skywalkers. And i think the obviousness of Rey being a skywalker is what they are banking on.. Which makes me think Kylo is the skywalker and it brings Luke out of exile. and essentially AWAKENS the force

I guess that in the end, it won't really matter if they're Skywalker's or Solo's, as long as the movie is highly enjoyable.

I agree, as long as it's written well, screen play is written well, it's acted well. then they could literally just remake a new hope and i'd be perfectly happy.

It kinda seems like that's exactly what they're doing.

Kylo Ren = Vader
General Hux = Tarkin
Snoke = The Emperor
Rey = Luke
Dameron = Han Solo
Finn = Biggs
BB8 = C3PO & R2D2 combined
Max Kanata = Obi Wan
Starkiller Base = Death Star

The old folks (Han, Leia and Luke) are just along for the transition.

Not that I know of. This seems more ancient than that.

I love the force cult idea though. It was touched on briefly in the first Wendig novel.

Yeah, I'm good with it, too. The formula obviously worked!

Interesting.

I still haven't had time to pick up the Wendig book but I continue to see more bashing than praise.

Welcome to the internet, Dean MacCloo!

I'd probably wait until it's a trilogy. Canon or not I doubt it's integral to ep 7.

The thing from the book was (as I recall...) alluding to a group on the outer rim collecting force artifacts, in particular Vader' s saber. Maybe connected to the Knights of Ren.

I'll take that advice. Most likely, I'll have a greater desire to read it after seeing Epi VII.

So far I've read Dark Disciple (best written of the new canon so far), Tarkin (flashbacks were the best part), Lords of the Sith (worst written book so far, but most action). Just started A New Dawn, and so far I'm enjoying it. Like that it seems like an origin story for Kanan and Hera.
