Kansas State plans to install a new, more advanced type of artificial turf, becoming the first team in the FBS to use the new turf.

Made by Astroturf, the GameDayGrass 3D60H is used by the Tampa Bay Rays and Kansas baseball, as well as practice fields at Stanford and Tennessee.

Installation is set to begin on May 2 and is expected to be completed by June 5. On the new field, both end zones will be purple, but still feature the Powercat. The Wildcat logo will still be purple and at the 50-yard line.

Both sidelines will have "Kansas State University" on one end of the field and the Wildcat logo on the other, both in white.

Astroturf says the new fiber performs most like natural grass and bounces back to an upright position faster than any other artificial surface.

It also features Astroflect heat reduction technology, which can lower the surface temperatures of the field by 18 percent. Because of the grass fiber's unique "Omega" shape, it also doesn't reflect light or produce glare like other forms of turf.

Kansas State kicks off its season against Eastern Kentucky on September 3.

So... Anyone else go to the Bill yesterday? My abbreviated thoughts are below, feel free to flame away...

Klein should be the QB, no question in my mind. RBs are good, so are WRs. OL needs some serious help, but if they can get it together, the offense could end up looking pretty sexy.

DL is still small, but Meshak looked to be able to get pressure consistently. A. Brown is awesome. Secondary has some depth to it but will be relying on a lot of newcomers.

And DT to the Dolphins seems like a great fit. Ronnie & Ricky's contracts are up, he's done a lot of work in the Wildcat and it's close to home...

Thoughts?
