Owners of Toyota Cars in Rebellion Over Accidents Caused by Sudden acceleration.

Owners of Toyota Cars in Rebellion Over Series of Accidents Caused by Sudden Acceleration

Anyone else been following this story? They had a pretty graphic show on nightline about it last night.

http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/Runawa...ory?id=8980479

Refusing to accept the explanation of Toyota and the federal government, hundreds of Toyota owners are in rebellion after a series of accidents caused by what they call "runaway cars."

Share
Department of Transportation: underlying defect causes accelerators to stick.

More PhotosSafety analysts found an estimated 2000 cases in which owners of Toyota cars including Camry, Prius and Lexus, reported that their cars surged without warning up to speeds of 100 miles per hour.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE OF THE RUNAWAY TOYOTAS STORY.

Toyota says the incidents are caused by floor mats becoming stuck under gas pedals, but owners say that's not what happened to them.

Watch the full report tonight on 'World News with Charles Gibson' and 'Nightline'.

"I'm absolutely certain that in my situation, it was not the floor mats," Elizabeth James told ABC News. She was driving her Toyota Prius outside Denver, CO when she says it suddenly shot up to 90 miles an hour, even though her foot was on the brake and not the gas pedal.

"I kept going faster and faster," James said. "And all of a sudden… my foot was pressing on the brake super, super hard and I wasn't slowing down."

James and some other Toyota owners suspect the accidents have been caused by some kind of glitch in the electronic computer system used in Toyotas that controls the throttle.

Small cars were small cars, they offered very little protection back then, they were not loaded with the safety equipment that all cars sold in the USA are required to have now. If you drove any of those midget cars then, you were assuming the risk.

Thanks it really sucked beyond description, and I am sorry about your friend.

When fuel hit 75 cents a gallon lots of people were driving the little things. But even the big cars, when compared to today's cars, were pretty unsafe.
No airbags, no crumple zones, they were just plain crude compared to what we are all driving now. It has just been a progression in the technology, along with a lot of the reliability problems they all experienced. Of course, the cost has risen proportionately.

Your in here saying how great Toyota is while they are shutting down for catastrophic failure, claiming I have no credibility. How does one establish credibility when the other persons eyes are closed to that degree?

You're right, I'm not buying that it was "stones" that have shut down Toyota. If that doesn't hold water with you, then I will just have to live with that.

BTW, who is buying your rhetoric? Just curious.

Anyway, I guess we dont have much to offer each other in this debate so I will just respectfully take a pass for the rest of it. Good luck.

I called the number regarding my 2009 Corolla and this is basically all I got out of it.

If I am an owner of one of the affected vehicles, what action do I need to take?
Toyota is working quickly to prepare a correction remedy and will issue owner notifications in the future. No action is required at this time unless you feel you are experiencing this condition. If you are experiencing this condition, immediately contact your nearest Toyota Dealer for assistance.

Guess I am just supposed to wait until my car rams into my living room when I pull into the garage. heh

Most of my neighbors all work for Toyota here in Georgetown...what most of them are saying is to take it to your dealership and have them look at it. Not sure how good your relationship is with the dealer you purchased the car from. but make an appointment with them. (I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to sell you on a model that isn't being recalled)

Have you seen an indication of problems with the car?

I think I told everyone on here about the wreck I had October 15, 2009 in a rented 2010 Toyota Camry.

I was in the right lane and a guy ahead of me in the left lane made an illegal right turn in front of me, cutting off my lane of traffic. I slammed my brakes and swerved to miss him, but the car kept accelerating until we hit a building.

Here are some pics

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?ai...84672078&op=12

I really want to sue both the car rental company and Toyota for endangering me and my girlfriend's lives, but I'm not sure how successful that would be. At least I wasn't on the highway when it happened.

Too bad the rental company is going to try to get me to pay for that POS vehicle. Maybe there will be a class action lawsuit in the near future, which will put Toyota on the hook and make them pay for it.

Actually the Storm is a badge engineered Isuzu Impulse that was completely assembled in Japan. I doubt there was much more than the Geo emblems on it that were domestic.

Well, my experience is that you’re going to get the same 150K miles average service life from a Jap 4 cylinder as you will an American V-8. The differences are that you’ll get a lot more power and torque from the V-8 while the 4 banger will return better fuel mileage with fewer emissions but that has nothing to do with where they came from and everything to do with displacement.

There are HP and torque advantages to maintaining air velocity through the intake particularly at lower to mid RPM’s. Not that I’m disagreeing, just saying.

OK, now you’re being ridiculous.
Are you actually trying to compare rollover rates of SUV’s to cars?
