He throws harder, and his slider is more of a wipeout pitch than Soria's hook was (because Holland is a bit more consistent with it and it is more effective against LH hitters). The splitter is also unfair when paired with the mid-90s heat and the slider. All three pitches come out with the same arm speed and are tough to distinguish from one another.

Let's put it this way. Coming into tonight there were only 4 pitchers in baseball who had pitched at least 20 IP and had a higher K/9 rate than Holland. Aroldis Chapman, Andrew Miller, Jason Grilli and Shawn Kelley. Grilli is the only one of those guys with a lower ERA than Holland... and Grilli leads the league in saves and will probably make the All-Star team.

Soria struck out plenty of guys but more so he didn't allow base runners, Holland has allowed 20% more base runners

I was a big Soria fan...still think he should have been a starter. He did break down quick.
I just prefer closers like Holland. I think he has the potential to turn in Kimbrel-esque years. |

Moore said Sorias arm would never hold up as a starter. They used him perfectly although they should've traded him earlier
