I know the Cardinals have a long history and many fans no denying that, but they have plenty of bandwagon fans just as well. Trust me there is a plenty of them. Especially when World Series time pops up. Royals saw that bump last season for same reasons you are in the ****ing World Series. Its just more dramatic rise from where they were.

1897.

When the brewery was trading HoF players like Steve Carlton in the '70s over a few thousand dollars, Cardinals fans were still backing their team. It's just so disingenuous to try to claim that this was just because they win.

Sure, the Cards haven't always drawn 40K/gm but even at their worst they were still in the top half of baseball's attendance. It's a generational thing and yes, it is absolutely a cultural thing. The city of St. Louis identifies itself in large part by its baseball team - Kansas City does not. There's also just silly stuff like the fact that the Cards had the best reach by radio of any team in the nation when KMOX was pumping at its highest in the 50s.

Win, lose or otherwise, the Cardinals fans have always been there. That said - that doesn't make them inherently more noble. It does mean, however, that they're significantly less inclined to take shit from some idiot screaming MOOOOOOSE in their ear who didn't know what a double play was 24 months ago.
Even at our worse in the late 70's when we getting out asses kicked regularly we were still MLB middle of the pack in attendance.Sure there are bandwagon fans, just like any other team.

I remember watching the Cardinals in the 1964 World Series. Before the Royals even existed. My son is a 5th generation Cardinal fan. This fandom runs deep in my family and I think most Cardinal fans. Doesn't make us the BFIB or "better" fans than the Royals fans. The posters I know on here have been hard core Royals fans for a long time. They as fans have earned the right to see playoff baseball and see their team win a WS.

We had one. A worse owner than Glass, no less.

Gussie Busch was a REMARKABLY terrible owner. Let's not even get into the battles he had with his own damn family that screwed up the organization or the time he fired Harry Caray for banging...well somebody in the Busch family. He dismantled the talent on the field several times. Royals fans are still burned over trading Beltran because he didn't want to spend $100 million in free agency. Gussie Busch traded Steve friggen Carlton (during the reserve clause era, no less) over a few thousand dollars due to a petty temper tantrum.

That would be like trading George Brett at the beginning of his arb years for a lefty reliever because he didn't want to get paid the league minimum.

Carlos Beltran? Boo ****ing hoo.

Everyone has bandwagon fans. But the Royals fanbase is 3/4 bandwagon fans and they're bandwagon fans with a staggering inferiority complex so they just talk trash incessantly and expect that folks that have been living or dying with their teams for 30 years are going to give a wet shit about their opinion.

Regarding Hootie's stupid point about Cardinal attendance during lean years:

They've done it. That was the point of the attendance figures that you didn't get. The Cardinals were terrible in the '70s. Their cumulative record was under .500 from 1988-99, yet they were always drawing 25-30K+.

Kansas City is a bandwagon sports town. It always has been. The "Sporting" bullshit is just another example, as is the desolation of Arrowhead during the Pioli era and the sudden emergence of all these Royals die hards who have to hand wash cool all of their regalia.
