Just the short scene they showed on the AMAs last night gives me hope they got this right. One of the biggest problems with the prequels was there was no chemistry with the characters, and you just couldn't get invested. I felt more from that little scene than they were able to pull off in the prequels. It may not be a masterpiece but it's going to be fun and seems like it's going to capture the vibe of the OT. I can say I've never been this excited to see a movie.

Every time I see Daisy Ridley in a dress I want to savagely make love to her.

This made me cry.

Larry Kasdan is satisfied.

“On the first day, I said, ‘look, delight, that’s the word. In every scene, that should be the criteria we’re using. Does it delight? Is it fun?’

I look at the movie now, and I’m feeling very good about that. What J.J. did with it is so great. You take all of J.J.’s gifts, the dynamism of his camera and his sense of humor and feeling of momentum, his ideas of story, and I feel like we were able to achieve that delight.

It’s an unusual feeling even for me. When I look at the movie, I can’t resist it. It just tickles me.”

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

For myself, it's for the reasons you cite.

It CAN'T be worse than the prequels. It's a chance for redemption for the franchise...who wouldn't be excited about the possibility.

And no George Lucas. So there's that...

For me, it's simple: Larry Kasdan.

Everyone knows the prequels suck as movies. At this point, their only worth is as a historical lesson to find out who Darth Vader was before his transformation and why it happened. That's pretty much the only usefulness of those films.

But with Disney's acquisition, they not only put the perfect person in charge of LucasFilm in Kathy Kennedy, she immediately made the right choice in bringing back Kasdan, who wrote TESB and ROTJ (and Raiders of the Lost Ark). Kasdan's first choice was to write the Han Solo spinoff, which he's done but he was also asked to shape the Star Wars galaxy moving forward.

The interviews with Kennedy, Kasdan and Abrams all point to the fact that they "get it". They get what made the original Star Wars film (and TESB) so amazingly brilliant. They've allegedly done their best to bring that feeling to life and throughout the trailers and now nine TV spots, it looks like they did it.

I'll know for certain by 1:30am, December 18th because I'm seeing the film at 11pm on Thursday the 17th. But all indications are that it's going to be a really good film.

And better yet, Rian Johnson's film has all the indications of approaching TESB in terms of darkness, which I'm completely psyched about. His episodes were the best of Breaking Bad, which was a brilliant series.

I don't know why anyone ISN'T excited about this.

George Lucas is far, far away from this galaxy.

We already know what happens when he's removed from the equation: the Rebels and Clone Wars cartoon series. That shit is awesome.

Star Wars has ALWAYS been best when others are allowed to play in the sandbox Lucas created. ****, why couldn't he have just had someone else write and direct the prequels?

So even though this franchise has wasted a decade of your lives you still think, this year, it'll be different?...
