**Official MU Head Coach Search Thread**

Seems like this deserves its own thread. The news will start coming fast over the next week or two, IMO. Recruiting is a 365-day event and we can't afford to be rudderless for long.

My vote - Cuonzo Martin.

Discuss.

The first year was so good because he inherited a senior laden roster full of guys who wanted to win/prove something in their last collegiate shot. They also had tremendous offensive talent (Pressey, Denmon, English, Ratliffe).

Ernie Nestor's contribution is overrated to extremely ridiculous levels by Mizzou fans. The PG-driven offense/pick-and-roll was actually an offense Haith brought with him (same thing UT ran with TJ Ford when he was Rick Barnes' top assistant).

Larry Eustachy had a much better coached Colo. State team eliminate Mizzou last year in the NCAA. I don't know that he would want to come back to the place where his drinking problem became a huge joke, but if he can recruit to Mizzou, he might be a great hire. He sure coaches the players he has.
The offense wasn't less organized so much as less talented and skilled. Missouri was a highly efficient offense in 2012-13 thanks to Pressey/Oriakhi/Bowers, but it didn't have the same level of talent on the wing, and Pressey had no ball handling help.

If Mike Dixon wasn't rapey, that season likely ends differently (due to having enough talent to overcome/make everything look better.

Eustachy is definitely worth some consideration and isn't getting any buzz for the Mizzou job. I'd like him. And he's be a rather large upgrade.

This thread is pretty high comedy. As predicted by most, this hire was an absolute disaster from the moment it was announced. The concerns voiced by many (no offensive flow, clueless on defense) were absolutely on point.
I think Haith deserves most of the criticism he's getting, but I don't think that's fair. It would have been premature to say he was leaving before a final agreement had been reached. As it is, it seems like he was upfront with his kids and they'd have to be really slow not to be able to read between the lines and understand the likely outcome of his visit.

Considering he did a pretty shitty job at Tennessee (until the talent he inherited realized with about 6 weeks left that their college careers were almost over), I'm pretty sure he would have done a pretty shitty job at Mizzou as well.

His Tenn. teams were massive underachievers, and his efforts in recruiting were extremely lackluster (to the point of having NO major contributors on the roster that he recruited out of HS in Year 3. Stokes, Maymonn, Barton, McRae, and Richardson were all inherited or fell into his lap).

I'm sure he'll put in a few mediocre years at Cal, then move back to Purdue to take over and "save" things when they have to can Painter in a few years.

You're correct.

It would be a second chance, and an extremely risky one for Mizzou. That's not Mike Alden's style.

But it would be an interesting hire that I think would work if he could stay on the wagon.

I agree. But it's just that all of the photo evidence is from Columbia itself. If Eustachy had been going crazy in any other town, it would be a possibility.

I think Howland would be a good fit, wouldn't be my first choice though.

I'd say Marshall is a pipe dream, but you've gotta make him say no. Archie miller would be pretty high in my list

Honestly, I'd love to have Eustachy. In reality though, I'd say there's about a 3% chance of that happening. Mizzou has had too many bad situations and trouble lately, and the media would make such a gigantic deal out of this that I'm almost certain it would be considered a no-go as soon as the discussion started. I'm not so sure he'd like to re-open that either...although enough $$ makes difficult decisions much easier.

Side note: That's actually me in the background of the infamous picture. There were a couple of other ones floating around online back in the day but that one always seems to be the most popular. Weirdest night ever...I actually put him in a cab back to his hotel about 5am that morning. Had to pay for it too because he had no money.

Don't know if this was posted before, but I got this "sincere" email from Mike Alden, sent to all the Alumni who have bought basketball tickets in the past few years (including me):

Dear Tiger Nation,

Earlier this morning, Frank Haith informed me that he would be resigning his position as head basketball coach at Missouri. I thanked Frank for his service to the University the past three years and on behalf of the Mizzou family, we wish him, Pam, Corey and Bri, the best of luck.

While we appreciate Coach Haith's contributions, our position as an institution - as we begin this search process - has never been stronger. The exposure, the resources, the facilities and the fan passion for each of our sport programs is at an all-time high and I'm looking forward to beginning the next chapter of Mizzou Basketball.

I will be working with a team of people as we conduct a national search for our next coach, and in the process, we will be seeking input from people throughout the basketball community. I am confident we will recruit the right leader who represents our core values of academic integrity, social responsibility and competitive excellence. During this transition, an important focus should be on our young men in this basketball program and providing them with the support and attention they deserve throughout this process.

We have high expectations for all of our athletic programs and we expect to compete for SEC and national championships in men's basketball, and to do so with class, integrity, sportsmanship and a commitment to our student-athletes.

Thank-you for your unwavering support of our student-athletes and coaches and we hope to see you this weekend as we host a number of events at the Sports Park, including the Black & Gold Spring Game, home series in baseball and softball, and the SEC Women's Tennis Championships.

Go Tigers!

Sincerely,
Mike Alden
