So it's a risk to take Geno but not a risk to take any WR or DB as long as it isn't a QB? That makes sense.
The risk is ****ing around with the QB position. That's the risk. It always has been the risky. That is the irony of it all. The true fans are so afraid to take risks yet their strategy is the most risky and unlikely to work of any. |

I just got around to watching two of Geno's games from his sophomore year. USF & Pitt (Baldwin has a few cameos lol).
I've read several times on this board that he played in a pro style offense that year, but 2 games in and it sure looked like a spread system to me. He was in the shotgun over 90% of the time. I will say that I actually think he will be better under center. From what I have seen, he's much better when his feet are under him and when taking the drops from under center he consistently has his feet under control. He had a beautiful TD pass from under center off of PA in the USF game. He seems to get sloppy footwork sometimes in the shotgun & pistol. I'm thinking that his college offenses weren't the best fit for him. |

Not an endorsemwnt RT @MaryKayCabot: Cleveland Browns' Brandon Weeden could've been first QB picked had he been in this draft, Kiper says http://www.cleveland.com/browns/inde...medium=twitter |

Weeden's own coach dispelled that notion... |

Mary Cay Cabot covers the ****ing Browns for the Plain Dealer. The new Browns ownership reportedly isn't that high on Weeden. OF COURSE they're going to float this shit. They're trying to TRADE HIM. |

What did the Chiefs gain by drafting "risk-free" players like Glenn Dorsey, Tyson Jackson, and Eric Berry in the top 5?
You get two bums and a possibly overrated safety who's still in "wait and see" mode So much for "safe" and "no risk" |

We got a great, legitimate high first round prospect who isn't suited to the scheme we changed to. We got a safety that everyone in the world loved at the time, and picking a safety that high was not a safety pick.
Jackson is Jackson. You can say a million bad things about that pick, but not that it was a safety play. That was the biggest reach in modern draft history. The opposite of safe. The safety pick would have been at those positions of safety in the top of the draft - a Monroe or Raji or Orakpo or someone like that... oh wait, those would have been excellent selections. |

We were transitioning to a 3-4, and there was this player that fit ideally with that scheme in size/ability. The team knew (read: thought) they'd get a good player out of him regardless of where he was drafted. It was either that, take another LT in Eugene Monroe, or GET RISKEEEE by taking the fatass who might not work hard in BJ Raji or *gasp* MARK SANCHEZ WHO WAS RISK TIMES INFINITY OHHHH NOOOOOEEEEEEEEEEESSSSZZZZ! We went with safe. We took Jackson. It was declared stupid at the time by nearly everybody, but that doesn't mean people didn't think of it as a safe pick. |

Someone has to destroy this notion that taking a high potential player at QB #1 is too risky. The new CBA protects teams against JaMarcus Russell/Ryan Leaf busts (which Geno Smith has no signs of becoming).
The risk is probably 4 years, 25-28 million dollars guaranteed. We paid more money to Cassel, Jackson, Dorsey, and Berry. Hell, we're probably on the hook for more money to our head coach than we will be to pick 1.1 |
