Aquaman is ****ing awesome.
I'm currently in the midst of reading his New 52 run. I'm on volume 3 "Throne of Atlantis". The art is incredible. Seriously. Probably the best I've ever seen. And the storylines have been pretty gripping thus far. Atlantis is currently at war with the surface world where I'm reading and the Justice League is getting involved. Shit just got real. |

I've seen a few of your snarky posts in other threads so I know you're a comic book elitist douche. I'm not interested in getting into a debate with you because I'm not really knowledgeable. I mentioned a few days ago that I had been reading the Injustice graphic novels but prior to that and this Aquaman run I hadn't read a comic book in probably 10 years. Anyway, the artist involved in the New 52 is Ivan Reis. He does some good work. I really love the way they draw and color Aquaman. |

I was going to say "looks like a generic Jim Lee rip off" but you figured it out yourself.
He certainly deserves his reputation but bleh, these days every C-list artist does his style so it's no longer a special thing anymore. He himself also trains artists to specifically draw like him or ink or do fill ins for him (not saying it's a bad though). -- Can't say I'm a fan of the bronze age and older stuff art either, I understand the technical limitations they had back then but I can't really go back and be wowed by anything. The earliest stuff that really struck me was probably Dave McKean, then Alex Ross or Phil Jimenez. Lots and lots of great artists today, but my favorite bosses are Frazer Irving, Frank Quitely, and J.H Williams III. Irving is by far my favorite, the shit he's able to put on a page blows my mind every time. When I read his Batman & Robin for the first time it didn't even occur to me that comics could look like that. Let's be honest, his joker is one of the creepiest: |

I was always partial to Keown and McFarlane.
I think both truly hit their strides when they went to image but you could tell they were special even in their early Marvel work.
