"I Was An NFL Player Until I Was Fired By Two Cowards and a Bigot"

The Vikings organization and the NFL could be sued if any of this is true from the special teams coordinator.

I can't imagine the depths of lawsuits that would accrue if any leader in my organization said some of the things that the special teams coordinator said.

Not to turn this into a Duck Dynasty/religion conversation but you can have your opinion, you just can't say those vile things ("nuke it until it glows") while representing your organization.

no, but giving them a condom is basically saying 'Here, have some sex' - it's a boundary issue.

it's like saying, 'now, there's a case of beer in the fridge - here's $100 and the keys. I'll be back on Monday. Now, no alcohol - you're not 21. But I picked up a couple of 12s in bottles. Be good'!!

It sends mixed signals.

I think it's different than alcohol, because you HAVE to be 21 to drink, not ****. It becomes a matter of teaching responsibility IMO. That said, your comments are reasonable. Saying kids are gonna **** JUST because they have rubbers isn't, IMO.

You are way out of touch with reality on teens and sex.

That makes it a bit trickier, imho - it's something that everyone does, and there is no one automatic 'legal age', only an age of consent, which can vary from state to state. So, it's up to the parents to hope that they have raised a responsible person, that's all.

Everyone will do it eventually; you just hope your own kids will hold out as long as possible.

If he wants to say the special teams coach is a bigot, fine. But the other two guys have no obligation to put up with him if they think he's a pain in the ass that isn't that great of a kicker.
So, as far as them being cowards - if they thought he was a pain in the ass, then so be it.

I don't have kids, so I don't know. I do know that outside influences, and peer pressure are a part of the game. That said, growing up my parents held more sway over me than anyone, and I was an asshole, know it all, that challenged them on everything. What they didn't know was that I was always listening. And when they didn't feed me bullshit, I listened. I think the parents that fail are the ones that feed their kids smoke, mirrors, and bullshit. Level with them, and you'll own their minds. YMMV and all, but I noticed that in the great majority of my friends as well. That's why the preachers daughter was the easy one. She was the only one told she would burn in hell fires. That's not a knock on Christians, but it is a knock on some of them.

It's true - honesty is the best policy, always. My daughter is probably a bit young for some of the things I tell her, I sometimes talk over her head...but I never lie to her. I'm straight and honest, and tell her how I feel, as long as it's age-appropriate.

I make assumptions because you're too shy to be clear. Instead, you like to hide behind broad slurs against vague targets and when given the chance to be specific and clear up any misconception, you seem perfectly happy letting the supposed misconception persist. So let's revisit this strand of the thread and give you another chance to clear it all up.

Which "bigots, racists, and homophobes" are these haters defending if not Phil Robertson? While you're at it, why don't you be specific about who these hateful defenders are too so we don't have to make any assumptions about what you're talking about.

And since you failed to answer my simple, specific question the first time, why not take a stab at that too. Are you equally amazed by Phil Robertson's critics who now defend Kluwe?

I probably should have read back further before commenting but simply put, abstinence is great and should be the goal for our teenage kids, but education including access to condoms etc...are critical as well.

Most kids, even kids from healthy happy homes, are going to have sex before they leave high school. Its just a fact.

Also, sex is viewed much much more casually by kids today than ever. Its not even a big deal it seems.

Condom handouts are just one aspect of a larger culture of acceptance of teen sex. Increased sexualization of movies and literature along with the impact of the internet also play a part. You might be right when you make your ultra narrow declaration, but I'm not sure how useful that is.

So it seems fair to say that one guy went out of his way to make his views public and the other guy was drawn into it, right? Furthermore, the guy who went out of his way, was the guy who by virtue of losing his job was drifting into irrelevance while the other guy didn't need the interview as a "media whoring" platform.

maybe that's how it goes for YOUR kids, but my daughter doesn't go to public school, doesn't watch much TV or listen to 'popular' music, so the vacant, desensitized mindset isn't forced on her.

And when she gets older, sex will be a big deal for us to deal with as a family. Because it IS a big deal. Life is a big deal, period.

see, MY opinion of a 'happy, healthy home' differs from the majority of Americans' today.
