Did Alex Smith remind you of Matt Cassel tonight?

7-16

62 yards (45 net)

3 sacks

3 passing first downs (1 on a screen pass)

0 completions over 8 yards.

4 punts

NO TOUCHDOWNS

NO BIG PLAYS

NO INTERMEDIATE PLAYS

I'm pretty sure they have the same father, just different mothers.

I've seen Alex make ONE NFL throw in two games, and it was dropped.
Maybe it's "Battered Chiefs Fan Syndrome", but the good I saw last week was the on-the-money accuracy. Even in short routes, that accuracy and timing is key, and is probably more important in the short-intermediate game because there is more traffic.

The deep stuff needs to show up or it won't work. But just initially I have to say, Cassel wasn't even accurate on the short passes. Smith is a big upgrade. Whether it's big enough to lead to playoff victories has yet to be seen.

damn laptop auto correct lol. NFL level game manager decisions. I don't think he will be an ALL PRO but I think he will have his great games and low games.

See Buffalo Bills and then Vikings game last year

Here's the thing that irritates me so far. keep in mind, I didn't get to go to TC this year to see what their base/primary RCs are going to be, out of what alignments and personnel, etc.

I have yet to see anything truly directed at intermediate depth sans the dig(iirc) by Baldwin that he dropped today. Through 1 series and a full half, I've seen exactly 1 3 verts concept (on a 3-20+ tonight that was checked down), no smash concepts, no 4 verts, no back shoulder throws, no comebacks, no razor (dig+out) concepts and 1 (maybe) levels concept that missed the under on the progression (all with the 1s).

The rest primarily have consistently been of almost entirely out, slant, and diagonal/flares to the RBs. FFS, we supposedly have 2-4 average to above average pass catching TEs and yet we've not once seen a 3/4 verts concept that utilized them in the seam.

i just don't know what to make of it. If I had seen all of these things being practiced at TC, I'm sure I'd feel much more confident. As of right now though, I'm really baffled as to how exactly they plan on using our personnel witht he exception of Charles.

oh, cue Chase Daniels: "we kept everything vanilla." Reporter asks, "why chase?" Chase Replies, "Andy Reid ate all the flavored stuff."

I did that for the first series last week and never posted it. Wasn't really that sexy.

If the good people of Gotham really wanted, I'd do it for one side of the ball for the first quarter or half.

I'm setting a new goal for myself this season. I want to be able to look back at this post and know what the **** you're talking about. Honestly. I understood outs, slants, and diamonds, so that's a start.

Honey, we can break this down in like, 30 minutes.

It's the defensive and blocking that will remove you from society and release you back into the world looking like Tom Hanks from Cast Away.

Best of luck on that. Hes pretty in tune to all of the formations, and routes. I have always been impressed with his knowledge of the game.
