has it all passed? It really doesn't look bad right now on the NRL, I mean there is a wide swath of snow, but it is all color-coded 'light'

It was very lightly snowing this morning when I left for work. I live a bit north of Houston but still crazy to have anything down here.

I remember back when a snow storm was just called a snow storm-not WINTER BLAST, POLAR FREEZE or other silly names.
It just snow people-it will melt. |

My wife got sent home at 2, and made the 15 mile commute with no incident at all. Cars and big rigs were humming along I-29 all day here in Platte City. It wasn't until it started getting dark that I noticed people driving noticeably slower. The hype surrounding these winter storms is hilarious. Did we not all grow up in the midwest? Are we not used to *gasp* heavy snow accumulation in the winter? Is it necessary to rush to the store and buy up all the bread and water you can find? Shit, most of the people in this very thread reported they had no problem getting around in their reasonably equipped vehicles. I went out to clean my wife's car off yesterday morning and the apartment complex parking lot was a like a snow tomb. Nobody was trying to go anywhere, despite our lot being clear and the main road to the complex being clear. |

Oh, and I'm all for snow days. I'm just not going to act like it's all about safety, when it's really the equivalent of an adult living out their inner child. Which is fun and necessary sometimes.

So I didn't go in Tuesday. We ended up having nearly 100 call ins. Yesterday I attempted to go in, but got stuck literally right outside the house. Ended up having to blow two vacation days, which wasn't what I intended.
PROTIP - Never ever buy a house on a hill with a cul-de-sac involved. The city doesn't even know your little street exists. PROTIP #2 - Buy a snowblower, even if you only have to use it a couple times a season. |

It's incredibly stupid, and it's not just 'winter blast'... they've even started giving them official names like hurricanes. People stock up on groceries like they won't be able to leave their house for 2 weeks.
