Seems like this deserves its own thread. The news will start coming fast over the next week or two, IMO. Recruiting is a 365-day event and we can't afford to be rudderless for long.

A couple of thoughts on that... if that was the case, his agent probably would have initiated the contact rather than Painter himself reaching out to someone HE knows that knows Mike Alden.

And Painter certainly would be in the discussion for the Tennessee job..

I don't think this is a straight money grab. But time will tell.

One other thing ... rumor is the rumors originated from Gene Keady's family. If so, that would be an odd source for a money-grab. As Duncan said, it was a straight money-grab you'd think the agent would initiate it.

But again, this is all rumor and hearsay. Who knows?

Not much more than what Vahe and Gabe have and are reporting.

MU has identified Painter as the #1 target.

One detail: MU has been informed (by someone close to Painter) that he's not going to personally get involved unless it's apparent from the beginning that Mizzou is serious about getting something done.

In other words: no "Hey Matt, let's talk" and then have Alden put it on delay as he also talks to other candidates.

It's similar to how Anderson set it up with Arkansas; CMA wasn't going to be "officially" involved in formal discussions until the offer had been framed financially, in advance.

Painter is at his vacation home in Florida which is probably a good thing; keeps people (media dogs like me) from staking him out and such.

Hey, like I keep saying I don't know Painter personally and have no way of knowing his motives. I am always wary of contract-enhancement possibilities at Purdue and whether this could be a leverage deal. But my peeps who know him well believe he's sincere. We'll probably know soon enough.
