Chiefs without a doubt.

I bet he really does like KC.

He was hated from the minute he was drafted. Aaron Rodgers played at Cal, grew up a 49er fan. And they drafted Alex Smith not because of ability but because he came cheaper, and he was a obedient child for Mike Nolan. The entire deck was stacked against him from day one.

Is that basically what the allure was/is there??

Sandy, Mav, OldSchool...this question if for you guys as well... Not being condescending by asking, just trying to get a feel for how things were, not only for Smith with the 49ers, but for the people who were huge fans of him during that era...as you guys presumably were.

It was just finally enough was enough. I had been a 49er fan since '88-89. Became a SF Giants and 49ers fan right about the earth quake series. I was about 10 and had just taken a liking to pro sports. But many of us 49er fans who supported the team were outcasted for not getting in line behind Kaepernick because many of us saw what was coming. Rob Blake can tell you the absolute hell I was put through for stating the fact that I never thought Kaepernick was a franchise qb. So when he was traded to KC I decided to follow him here. I never expected to become a Chiefs fan, but the truth was I had watched several of the Chiefs games the previous year. Crennel, Brady Quinn, and also had felt so sorry for the Chiefs organization because of the Belcher tragedy because when I was deployed I had a battle buddy kill himself so that hit home hard for me.

But back to Alex, you watched how Mike Nolan basically tried to ruin his career by calling him weak when he was genuinely hurt and nearly ruining his career, to how ultimately he was replaced while playing the best ball (to that point) ,to vile fans who would not tolerate anyone not worshipping Kaepernick, (see the bitch poster Kaepernick7 who doesn't post here anymore if you haven't noticed) and it was extremely easy to walk away. It at first felt like I left because of Alex but now the more I look back on it, I left because of a toxic culture.

Last night I watched maybe 20 minutes of the 49ers game with zero interest. On Sunday, while the Browns were playing I watched the Chiefs game live and DVR'ed the Browns game.

And yes Rico. Alex Smith the person has very much to do with my respect and admiration for the guy. I have always thought him to be a slightly better than okay qb but a hell of a person on and off the field who has always put team before himself. And that's the kind of athlete I would want my kids to look up to.

Interesting.

Man, I've hated Kaepernick since the moment I was made aware of his existence. Something about him. Yuck.

How do you like the fanbases compared to each other. CP obviously has their anti-Alex crew as well. How would you compare the fans of the Chiefs you have interacted with to say....the Browns fans and 49er fans?

I just never bought the BS that Smith was to blame for the dumpster fire that was the 49ers when Smith was drafted. The team, as a whole, was just completely shitty. And... at the "water cooler", in forum's, weekend bbq's etc, I was the minority opinion that thought the niners problems couldn't simply be placed on Smith's shoulders.

That went on for quite a few years and I became just really hopeful that the guy could finally have some success. That 13-3 year with that incredible Saints playoff game was absolutely the most fun I've had as a fan of a professional sports team - counting even the super bowl years. It was just such a surprising turn around that no one saw coming. You've probably seen the "Sportsfan" video... It was like that. I very much wanted him to finish it off and take the team to the superbowl that next year. I don't begrudge Harbaugh the decision he made as he's the head coach and I respect that, but I was still invested in Smith's success. I want to see him have continued success for a couple of reasons:
  1. He's a class dude and has been every step of the way
  2. I appreciate effort, and his effort has never been questioned
  3. I was pretty appalled by his treatment from the SF fans
  4. I really enjoy rubbing his continued success in the noses of all the niners fans (many friends of mine) who said there was no way he could do all the shit he continues to do now.
  5. And I'd be lying if I said that the Chiefs haven't rubbed off on me a bit in the last 3+ years. Especially the folks here at Chiefsplanet. You are all so warm and welcoming!
That Saints vs. 49ers game was a tear-jerker. I got kind of teary eyed for at the time. When I thought of Smith, I thought of him being booed on Monday night football while the crowd was chanting for David Carr. Smith looked just heartbroken on the sideline. I remember Singletary's parting words when he left San Fransisco, "you gotta have a QB" when asked about his teams shortcomings. I remembered seeing clips of these 49er fans burning his jersey. Also, the first game I ever saw in person was Chiefs vs. 49ers in 2010 at Arrowhead and the guy for some reason couldn't get anything going...he looked worse than Cassel that game, which I thought was impossible. I felt bad for the guy and Vernon and him had me teary eyed after that drive.

I think Chiefs fans are generally pretty awesome.

It's not even close. Despite EVERYTHING that happened here, all of it I deserved, this is the best fan base I've ever been apart of. It's why Ive always said yes, I came here for Alex but I'll stay long after he's gone. This community is amazing.
