Game of Thrones (spoiler-free zone)
A few have suggested it, might as well test the waters. The idea is to give people who haven't read the books a safe place to talk about the show.

A few quick ground rules:
  • No Spoilers!!!!! for upcoming episodes.
  • Larger Song of Ice and Fire discussion should be limited to the other thread although I think a tiny bit of book delving to fill in holes should be okay (example of this would be talking about Catelyn and her treatment of the wolves in the novel, which was alluded to on TV but never really made clear...)
  • Everything that happened that week is fair game once an episode airs. So if you don't watch on Sunday night, I'd stay outta here until you do...

Am I the only that think Daenerys is pretty unfit to rule compared to say Stannis ? Hell, John Snow is probably a better leader.

Sure she is better than Joffery but that isn't saying much.

When it comes down to it, Theon's betrayal was inconsequential. The Ironborn got kicked out instantly and he didn't actually kill Bran & Rickon (or Cassel in the books). It was Robb's misplaced value in honor (like Eddard) that got him killed and lost the war (killing Lord Karstark tipped the scales against him considerably; this is compounded in the show because they state that the reason they go to the Red Wedding was to get more men/support from the Freys to make up for losing the Karstarks--though this is contradictory in what they say in the Season 1 where they take all the Frey soldiers except a handful to defend it). The Ironborn would have never fought for Robb anyway so the alternate route of Theon's betrayal was him going back to Robb's camp by himself. He wouldn't have made any difference in what happened.

No one, short of Hitler and the mad king, deserves the kind of torture he received--OK actually we can throw the Mountain in there as well.

Yes, I absolutely agree, though GRRM has made it pretty obvious that she is going to end up as the ruler of Westeros (if not the entire known world). Honestly, Renly would have made the best king of Westeros, he seemed to have the the most well rounded traits between honor and sensibility (I imagine Robert was much like this when he was younger, before Lyanna died). Like a practical, happy medium between Eddard and Stannis.

The whole dragons eating the fat dude was pretty awesome. And the whole Barriston and Greyworm street fight was bad ass. It was awesome to see what all the fuss about Barriston fighting was all about. Even at like 60, he lit dudes up like a mother****er. Grey Worm also fought like a bad mammajamma, especially compared to his compadres.

Her storyline isn't entirely boring. I just don't like the drama involved in her situation. I often find myself wishing a fight would break out or a dragon would show up. Conversely, I could watch Jon Snow, Tyrion or Stannis talk for days and not long for a sword to clash.

Daenerys herself has just never been very interesting to me.

I wonder how things would be different if Khal Drogo had never died...

Yeah, I discussed this with my wife. Sansa is sitting there with:

Not to mention that even though he didn't kill Stark children he did kill children non the less to make them look like the Starks. His dad did **** with his head a lot though. Basically telling him he was not one of them because he had been with the Starks all that time. But it was his dad's fault he was there.

None of that forgives his behavior though.

Yeah.

Not sure how it happens in the books (because I'm not that far yet)....but I think they'll give him redemption in the show. Say maybe Stannis takes Winterfell and kills Roose. They'll have Theon kill Ramsey....ala Breaking Bad with Jesse and Todd.
