*** Official 2016 Royals Repository, Version 1 ***

And so it begins: The Royals' second straight attempt to repeat as AL Champions, and first attempt to repeat as World Series champions.

In this thread, we'll track all non-gameday action. Roster moves, prospect news, etc.

I'll start the thread as usual, with division rivals thoughts. I still like KC to repeat as AL Central champs. Here's how I see the rest of it shaking out:

2) Indians - they have the pitching (and seem to have at least semi-Kluber-ed Cody Anderson, who added 3 mph to his fastball in the offseason). Will the offense hold up? I think this is a team that ends up looking a lot like the 2014 Royals. Francisco Lindor will solidify their IF defense over the full season, and is a help with the bat. I think this club is still a year away from really breaking through - the offense still has a lot of question marks - but I like them to nab a wildcard spot.

Key Player(s): Michael Brantley. When Brantley returns - and how he hits when he does - will be critical to the Indians' ability to be good enough on offense.

Jason Kipnis. Kipnis has been an enigmatic offensive performer for the past several years. If he finally has a good offensive campaign from start to finish, Cleveland could make real noise.

Something of interest to me: For all the acclaim the Twins' farm system gets, I look at the Indians young players, and would much rather have them. Brad Zimmer is going to be a very good all-around CF. Clint Frazier has huge power potential and should arrive soon (2017). Lindor is a young stud.

3) Tigers - Old and dependent on a few stars. If Verlander and Sanchez are healthy and effective, they will be playoff contenders. I'm sure JD Martinez will continue to hit roid-aided bombs. I'm also pretty sure Victor Martinez's days as a huge power threat are gone.

Key player: Justin Verlander. Detroit people would have you believe he figured out how to succeed without his big fastball in September of last year. If that's true, and he returns to dominant form, Detroit will likely contend again.

Something of interest to me: Will Jose Iglesias stay healthy and not try to kill teammates in the dugout? His defense makes the whole group much better.

4) Twins - They won't lead the division or be in playoff contention for as long this year, but Minnesota will avoid the cellar.

Key Player: Miguel Sano. Huge power, huge K rate. Can he continue to drive the ball and be a plus offensive player? Probably needs to cut that 35 percent K percentage to do so.

Something of interest to me: Will teams challenge Sano inside with hard stuff? Working away, away, just lets his power play up. Also - will Mike Berardino continue to be the biggest beat writer homer in MLB?

5) White Sox - still managed by a shitty manager who can't control his clubhouse (The blame for the LaRoche thing really should fall on him, not the GM). Still have a shitty overall defense and a lot of douchebags on the team. They will once again look better on paper than they actually perform.

Key player: Carlos Rodon. The White Sox need Rodon to take a big step forward to make an actual move this season. He's got the talent...

And, as always, here are the prospects.

Because of that home run, I can forgive Alex Gordon for just about anything. If he doesn't hit that home run, the entire World Series may have gone differently. The Mets had just swept the Cubs and would have been up 1-0 in the World Series with all of the momentum on their side. That was arguably the most important clutch home run in the entire history of the KC Royals.

I've even forgiven him for not busting his ass out of the batter's box in his final at-bat in the 2014 World Series. That's saying a lot, because I was very bitter about that.

Anyone who boos Alex Gordon is a ****ing moron.

I don't care if we're paying Alex to be Slugger. If any Royals fan was told that the Royals would have to pay 72 million for Alex to hit a home run in Game 1, I think almost everyone would have done it.

I was at the game today, scored incredible free seats behind the dugout. An obnoxious Mariner fan kept chanting "mental midget" at Yo. Some dude finally asked him when the Mariners last made the WS. He stfu pretty fast.

What amazes me is looking at these generational players. Griffey Jr, Verlander, Kershaw, Trout, Barry ****ing Bonds have played unbelievable careers and never got to taste a World Series championship. What we witnessed last year was truly, truly special. If it caused GMDM to get sentimental and resign Gordo and Young, so be it. It's a trade I'd be willing to make every time.

Any sleepers from this list? Also if you go to the archives you can go back to 2011 and view our top prospects from 2011-present. Holy shit did we have some guys that flamed out, which I know can be said about every organization. John Lamb was one of our top 5 prospects at one point? Also Sulbaran, Adam, Gallagher,Dwyer. And what the **** happened to Donnie Joseph? I thought he had potential as a loogy. Did he get replaced with Flynn?

*** Official 2016 Royals Repository, Version 1 ***

Sonny Gray.

The Kansas City Royals sent a scout to watch starting pitcher Sonny Gray’s last game. Gray pitched against the lowly Minnesota Twins and looked good. Unfortunately he’s struggled with health and consistency this season.

If the Royals rumors are correct that the Kansas City Royals scouts were they’re looking at starting pitcher Sonny Gray, this could mean good things for the team and the fans.

Gray’s been struggling this season. The Royals might be able to get him at a better price due to his struggles. The Athletics may hold firm at a step price believing his struggles were due to injuries alone and ask for a lot in return for the 26-year-old right hander.

If Gray is available, he could be the prize of any contending team looking for starting pitching. The Kansas City Royals fit the bill. Kansas City has one of the worst starting rotations in the major leagues coming in at 25th with a 5.02 earned run average this season, according to ESPN.

Gray’s carrying a 5.16 earned run average (ERA) and a 4.50 fielding independent pitching (FIP) metric. He’s also given up more walks and home runs this season compared to his All-Star season last year.

He’s given up 0.8 more walks per nine (3.4) and 0.5 more home runs per nine (1.2) this season through 90 2/3 innings. His numbers may look worse this season due to a strained right trapezius muscle he sustained on May 21st causing him to spend time on the 15-day disabled list.

After coming off the disabled list, Gray pitched well against the Houston Astros on the road. He pitched five innings giving up one run off of five hits. He struck out five, walked one and gave up a solo home run.

Unfortunately he’s struggled duplicating good games. In six of his 16 starts, Gray has allowed four or more runs a game. Far from the numbers he put a season ago. His ERA last year finished at 2.73 just about 2.5 points lower than this season.

Athletics beat reporter, Susan Slusser said that teams sent scouts to watch Gray. These scouts include the Kansas City Royals. These kinds of Royals rumors are just what fans want to hear. The team is actively searching for help to bolster the weak starting rotation.
