DraftPlanet is not closed.

Draft discussion is now encouraged in the Lounge. This format has been followed in the past and fell by the wayside.

We've had a discussion within this thread and reached a partial compromise. I don't know exactly what it looks like but I have a general idea of what I think would be positive for ChiefsPlanet. I'm looking to regular participants in DraftPlanet and The Lounge to help fill in the blanks with their own cool ideas.

The following is not yet etched in stone. There's a lot of pertinent discussion throughout the thread.
DraftPlanet will remain open until one week after the Combine. Draft gurus will be encouraged to start and/or ask for threads to be moved to the Lounge. We want to encourage football discussion in the Lounge and we hope Draftnits will seek to share their knowledge with the GenPop. Finally, DraftPlanet will remain open year around but new threads will be moderated by Draft moderators and moved to the Lounge or kept in DraftPlanet based on a yet-to-be determined criteria which is up for discussion.

You're completely missing the point.

The draftniks didn't complain. They didn't ask for a change. They literally didn't say anything at all.

Phobia looked at the Lounge, saw a dearth of football talk, and decided it would be a good idea to move the Draft Planet discussion into the Lounge to see if it would spark some conversation.

The draftniks had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with this until AFTER the changes were proposed.

Quite the contrary, any idea is a good idea at this point. This place needs more football discussion.

No, you're confused. Here's a simplified recap:

1. Phobia announces a change to bring draft content into the Lounge.

2. Glorious draft content creators (aka draft dweebs, draftniks, etc.) express concerns (i.e. whine) that unserious, poop-flinging denizens of the Lounge cesspool will mock their mocks or point out that they aren't GMs so they may well be FOS.

3. Phobia hears their concerns and responds by offering to treat draft threads like prayer threads to protect the glorious draft content creators from hurtful words.

3 follows 2. The prayer-thread treatment idea (3) is a response to whining (2). Which is exactly what I've been saying. I didn't get it backward.

The only real part of DraftPlanet that would bog down the Lounge is mock draft threads, which is basically the same as fantasy football "who should I start!?" threads. Merging those two ideas will not only keep the Lounge chugging along, it'll keep that subforum active year-round, instead of the seasonal cycles that both those forums have. There's no reason that draftniks couldn't just turn that forum into an ersatz DraftPlanet if they were so inclined and hated posting in the Lounge (I am willing to do my part in bringing Draft talk to the Lounge, however). There's also no reason why the Lounge should only be home to Draft talk about major prospects. This is a football forum.

I'd advocate (a.) nuking DP (contingent upon moving 100% of its threads to the Lounge), (b.) making CasinoPlanet a hybrid of fantasy football and mock drafts, and (c.) stickying the CP Mock, which again, is the best thing this forum does.

Note that there are currently only 3 threads in the past 30 days. I'd love for that to change regardless of whether DraftPlanet itself continues to exist.

That would be great if people actually tagged the threads correctly. There are several draft threads on the first two pages of the Lounge right now and most aren't marked with the draft icon. There are also several people that like to use the wrong icon just for the hell of it (like using the Royals or poop icons instead of the Chiefs icon).

I don't think it matters whether DP continues as the place for mock drafts or if it gets nuked and that content goes into CasinoPlanet, but otherwise I think all of this makes sense. I agree with the analogy between mock drafts and rate my fantasy team threads.

What do you think about the prayer thread issue, Direckshun? You can handle full exposure to the Lounge, can't you?

Any draft talk (that is not a mock draft thread) would then belong in the Lounge.

After 12 months or so, we return to review how everything works.

I will say that I agree with htis.

Much of ChiefsPlanet's lack of concern with the draft, I fear, has to do with the Pioli-era wars between "drafturbators" and "true fans."

It got really ugly, as both sides were very abusive. True fans called drafturbators condescending armchair GM douchebags (agreed), and drafturbators called true fans ****ing idiots.

DP has been a completely different forum this draft season. It's been very spirited but very cordial, and has welcomed input from absolutely everybody, including people who openly admit they know very little but have questions/opinions anyway.

I mean, for god's sakes, if ****ing Black Bob is fitting into the fabric of the forum, then you know the forum's got a long leash and a good attitude.
